No, the AFM is done, there is no way to get it clean again. Just get yourself another one and save yourself the trouble. I would look for a boost leak, and check codes. And as for the overheating...it sounds like you have a coolant leak, pressure test the system.
I would remove the CPS and p/s reservoir, and it's bracket. If you remove the water neck, but not the CPS, it will make it almost impossible to see the nuts holding it on...in fact I don't think you can take the water neck off w/out removing the CPS first. If you do remove the water neck...
