Lock nut? There's only one nut on top of the shaft...so I'm assuming your talking about that one? Because I haven't tried to remove it, but I would imagine it would just spin the shaft like when I'm trying to tighten it.

I know this thread is old, but I am having the stripped shockmount problem with my KYB shocks...the driver's side nut went on fine, and I was able to tighten it, and it isn't loose, but the passenger side stripped out... I have only done the rears, but do the front shocks do this too? Or is...

Won't that damage the shaft? How do I push the bump stop down? it like attached to the upper shockmount.

Hmm...I don't have any vice grips, and I tried that already...I cut a slit in a vacuum hose, and put it around the shaft, and used some channellocks with a rag double folded over the jaws...and the shaft would just turn with the nut.
