The head would still lift up in the back, where the prying tabs are...The alternator is on the front of the engine.
I would check to see of you got all of the head bolts out...I forgot to take one out after working on the car all night, and it made it impossible to get off.
Did your cooling system pressurize when you were testing the two low cylinders?
I dont think hitting your exhaust would cause you to have a blown head gasket, I think the turbo's exhaust housing cracking would be more plausible...of course it could also just be a coincidence that yout HG...
yes, pre-89 FTW! That is a very clean 87, BTW...I don't know why, but for some reason, it seems like the 87 Supras are always in the worst shape.
Your car is very nice! And keep it out of the snow...lol...at least put a cover on it.
There is a little tab on the exhaust side, IIRC, i had to use a big flathead screwdriver to pry the head off...it took a little force, and then just popped right off.
