Yea, in my experience, the aftermarket struts are actually quite good...Mine have lasted 4+ years as well.

Could be the exhaust rattling... Also check motor/trans mounts.

I really like how the center console is arranged...The ignition tumbler next to the e-brake (signature Saab) has always fascinated me. :)

I'm not sure which van...but I think the vanagon, or VW LT and the engine was also in the Audi 100.

Honestly...even if you could make a 7M or 2J fit...it would be ridiculously fast...like to the point where it isn't even fun. I would go with a turbo 4-cyl engine...

Looks good, but the wheel is a little thin...I think there is a layer of padding underneath the stock leather...it makes the wheel more cushiony, and thicker...I've been debating if I should find another steering wheel with the original leather still there (doesn't have to be in good shape) and...
