I can't imagine what would buzz.
However, when the transmission's pump starts to go out, or the pressure is adjusted too high on the cable it will make a whining sound.
If you can't find anything wrong with the transmission then you might want to have a look at your motor mounts. Sometimes it's hard to tell by listening where exactly the clunk is coming from and you might be getting fooled because of your pre-occupation with your trans and driveline.
I've seen chrome on aluminum that lasted really well. So, I think it's more a matter of how the process is accomplished.
Like everything else there's the right way and every other way.

I'm running sylvania silverstars, which work pretty well, but I'd gladly do the rewire if it's going to make a noticable difference. I've considered it, but didn't know if it was worth the trouble.

Assuming it doesn't fall apart, it might actually make a noticeable difference on an n/a, but I don't think it would make any difference on a turbo.
It looks mickey mouse, but in theory I don't see why it wouldn't work, especially on an N/A.
