7MGTE rebuild question about crank specs

Where did you come up with those numbers? Toyota lists the rod clearance standard at .021mm-.053mm. Discard size is .070mm, meaning (from toyota anyway) that the crank needs to go in the garbage. But they don't have to pay for a new one. I would have it turned down by the slightest amount...

Loud tapping from my newish supra, help please!

Here is some more for you. You indicated it sounded like the tapping was on top. Valve lash does not sound like engine knock from too much clearance. And the engine bearings are not the only place where clearance is needed to be checked. The cam journals that the inernet community thinks is...

    6 speed 7mgte anyone?

You already have your trans, but anybody else that wants to try, you can get different gearing. That is the Viper ratio's. The 4.6 Mustang units have 2.97 first, which is much more favorable for take off. I think it is a good idea if you can make it work. They are heavy units, you have...

    Lets talk tuning.

My suggestion is find a few automotive text books that explain computerized engine control and its logic. After that, you won't need somebody to explain the tuning part. You will already know what you have to do.

    CLEANING MY AFM

Our car does not have a mass air flow sensor, so that is another reason not to use it. That cleaner is for a different kind of sensor.

    ASE Help

If you pass your education, you can pass the ASE. You will not be ASE certified until you have the two year work histor though. The ASE proves you understand why and how on the car, allowing you to diagnose the problem, not just try different parts to fix it. Not every question is a good one...

    EGR valve ?

To think it won't be an issue is not correct either. As long as your fuel is good enough to combat the increased chance of detonation, then it won't be as much of an issue. EGR lowers combustion temperatures, thus lowering detonation.

    Hard starting when cold.

Don't assume that the shortblock is in perfect health after many miles and years of service. But that isn't the first thing I would look at either.

No need to worry about that until you hit flame out/misfire and regapping does not help.

    air flow meter

To directly answer your question, no. And I do not recomend testing it that way. You aren't actually getting much information.

    air flow meter

The airflow meter converts CFM to a hertz frequency, expressed on the dial of your DVOM as Hz. DVOM=DMM Digital volt and ohm meter, digital multi meter
