Well, the exhaust is filling up with fuel, that is what causes a muffler explosion. That kind of makes me think you are excessively rich. Did yo check any codes or look at the number one spark plug?
I wonder if you are not getting decel fuel cut for some reason.
TKA, you need to be careful asking a probably one time certified tech how to fix it. Because you know mechanics are always stupid and don't know anything. Just try it yourself.
That pin is called a dowel pin. It makes the gear be in time with the lobes.
A shortblock is a block wtih pistons installed.
A long block is a short block with the head installed. ( I didn't read wiki, if they differ, they are wrong...again)
