Well after much research, I'm going to do this, and report my application progress and results. I'm looking at either the 8 or 16 lb foam from this site: http://www.shopmaninc.com/foam.html
Check out the descriptions of the these densities:
"8lb: This 8LB density foam is extremely hard and...
I wanted a sunroof so bad but there were none so I went with a targa. I am much happier now that I've experienced it! Not to mention that the Mk3 sunroofs only open half way!
You can get generic floor bars on eBay, but they require drilling and tapping an extra hole in the rocker panel. I have one plus front and rear strut bars. I don't get much flex, but I still get some of the wobble/shimmy effect at speed.
To properly install new rear speakers, the entire rear of the car must be gutted, including the side panels beside the rear seats. If you try to mickey-mouse speakers in without proper dissasembly, you could damage panels as well as not get the speaker mounted well. I once tried to pull the rear...
So if the climate where you live is mild, i.e. rarely below freezing, and rarely above 90 degrees, the yellow might be a better choice? My red top sucks.
Awesome product, although separating the stock side marker lenses from their backings is a real challenge. I guess you break them off and glue on the new ones?

Will look at installing them in the next couple of months, as we're still in the middle of the widebody build. They are an eBay copy of the GT Factory Diablo kit.
I can see how the soldering iron would work. Several of the pins almost popped out by themselves from the high heat as I was cutting them. Do you reinstall them? I'm contemplating the necessity of these pins. I'll be using new butyl rubber.
You may want to try the oven method. It's a great...
I have found what looks to be a promising product designed to strip paint from model cars without damaging the plastic. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I may get a red plexiglass circle made up to plug the keyhole. Not sure yet!
As some of you guys are thinking about retrofitting LED's into your tails, I thought I would share some of my findings and mistakes to save you the trouble.
Tools you will need: An oven, tin foil and cookie sheet, leather gloves, putty knife, goo gone(to clean up any glue smudges on the lens...
If you will make one of these hood emblems, I will buy one. Can it be chromed, rounded, and bevelled like the stock one is? Anyone else want to get a group buy going for these hood emblems?
I'm looking into foam from this company: http://www.shopmaninc.com/foam.html
You can get densities as high a 8 or 16lb's per cubic foot. Their description for the 16lb foam is "This 16LB density foam is essentially as hard as a rock, you would need a hammer in order to make any dents in this...
I will be using some extremely hard chassis foam within the next couple of months, as my car is stripped down for a build right now. My goal is to have ZERO chassis wobble without using a targa brace. My 87 with front & rear strut bars, and a floor bar was much tighter, but stil not free of the...
