    Electrical Connectors

Yep, a handy thing to know. There's actually a name for it. Called a "rat tail" splice.

Not true, that's just a vicious rumor perpetrated by my enemies ;) I was CA BAR 97 emissons certified for several years though and I own three NDIR analyzers. I've got a thing for buying and fixing them because they're interesting technology. Call it a twisted hobby.

Clutch slips, No Cruise Con, WTF??? I Hate My Car... Arrrgggg

Lol, good for you Joel. RTFM is the way to go. The CC diags are kinda neat aren't they? I've come to the conclusion this car is a lot smarter than many of it's owners ;)

Does't matter what model year it is. The 6 year provision doesn't apply to him because it came from out of state. The EGR valve itself can be checked by applying vacuum to it and seeing if the engine runs rough or stalls. I'm not familair with the EGR controls on a Elise so can't help you...

Ok, looks like he was caught by the last paragraph. This is because cars built for sale outside CA are different. "Federal" cars for example. But Italy? Does the car even have EGR? *edit* I just checked the software on one of my gas analyzers and it has Italian emission specs in there. Not...

It's OK lanternman....nobody much believes anything I write anyway so it's nice to have a backup ;) Yeah, if it's a 2003 why is it getting tested? And what do you mean at "idle"? There is no idle on the ASM test unless he lives in a non-enhanced area. What county is he in?

There are several oxides of nitrogen, hence the name NOx. NOx is caused by combustion temps over 2000 F where the normally stable N2 combines with the O2. Anything that causes high combustion temps will generate NOx. Cooling system problems, timing, a slightly lean mixture, ect. NOx generation...

    Electrical help

Your car runs off a computer so you tell me? Every engine needs to be grounded properly and yours isn't. Bottom line: fix it. And be sure the small ground wire at the back of the head to the firewall on the pax side is there.

    Help with these items?

As 88 pointed out, the disc is the ISC check valve. They tend to fall out and get missed when the ISCV is removed so you'd better check and make sure there's one still in there. Sorry, can't help with the connectors.

The battery negative goes both to the block and the fender. Big wire to block, small to fender.

    Brake Lights Stay On!

They don't turn on when you brake because they're already on? lol... Checking the brake light switch would be a good place to start. Btw, your brake lights should be operable with the car off. It's illegal in California (and I believe all of the US) to have it any other way.

    Factory Alarm

Drill a hole behind the filler door. There's a hole with little rubber bumper there you can use instead if you want. Install normally closed pin switch and wire in parallel to the hatch switch (or any active low input on your aftermarket alarm).

Another lol for that one ;)

    Factory Alarm

It's not supposed to go off when you knock a window out because it has no shock or glass breakage sensor. It's easy to add one though. It *is* supposed to go off if you unlock the doors from the inside if it's armed. No need to open a door to set it off because the lock solenoids have switches...

    Writeup on Differential Oil Change?

Lol, I hear ya. Just that if it's your only ride and you need something to get it out you're left standing there with dick in hand ;)

    Factory Alarm

I agree afttermarket is nice. For $50 you can get an all in one box that'll do alarm, remote start, keyless entry, trunk popping, the works. The door sensors are a common problem on these cars, especially the driver's side. Fix that first and then step through each function and sensor. Btw, the...

I think it is. I know my 87 came harnessed for everything even if it wasn't installed. I know this cuz I later installed the Super Monitor, which I've since yanked and sold.

    Oil in IC

If you want to clean it on the car you can flush the system using an AC flush gun. Or recirulate flush through it. I've done it both ways. All you need to do is make up an adaptor but what Joel said is right: if you've got lots of oil you need to correct that first. Turbo, PCV system, ect. Or...

Check your other thread. Shaeff put up some excellent info, as he usually does.
