    weird coolant leak

Jdub, unless I'm reading you wrong I don't believe that's entirely correct in it being a continual process. Assuming a healthy coolant system the rad cap should never relieve during engine operation. The cap only relieves when it's pressure rating is exceeded and that won't happen if the heat...

    A/C recharge

Man that's bad. Lucky you stopped him. The kits must be getting worse these days. An R-12 mainfold set normally won't fit the high side of a Supra without an adapter. If you were just doing a recharge and not using a kit to convert I jumped on you too soon. Never use a cheap kit to convert. Use...

Power steering pump Issues after Rack replacment

Good man ;) Learning is much like maintenance: Proactive is better than reactive. You want that rack to outlast the car? Flush the system and start out clean. Run a synthetic. Add a Magnafine filter in the return line. Mine is right under the accordian hose. The system will never get dirty...

Power steering pump Issues after Rack replacment

When will that old myth die? The composition of ATF is well known. Mechanics need to stop looking at these things as car stuff and start looking at them as what they are. Autos and PS are hydraulic systems and ATF is nothing more than a slightly specialized hydraulic fluid. As with all hydraulic...

    A/C recharge

If the refrigerant charge gets too low the low pressure switch will cut off the compressor so yeah, it's probably empty. This is done because the oil circulates with the refrigerant. No refrigerant, no oil circulation. No oil circulation, boom goes the compressor. That sends compressor trash...

    A/C recharge

Why did it die in the first place? Did the compressor fail or is it just low on CFC-12? You could convert to 134 but I'm not a big fan of conversions. Some cars convert well, others don't. Not sure about the Supra but a 134 conversion will stress any 12 system to some extent.

    A/C recharge

The high side port should not fit your kit. That's done to prevent people like you from killing themselves. Only a fool or someone knowledgeable would charge from the high side anyway. It can be done with adapters but the ports are different sizes for a reason. There are lots of good reasons to...

    A/C recharge

They're called death kits for several reasons. If they don't kill the person using them, which is what happens when someone hooks them to the high side (can't do it on a Supra though), they almost always lead to the death of the AC system down the road. Many have sealants, no oil, ect. If the...

    Need help adjusting timing.......

Nicely done Joel. Lol, RTFM works every time. All I'll add is be sure the car is warmed up and he can use wire six for the light if he wants. Easier to get to ;)

    Random pop or backfire

Joel, any leak upstream of the lambda sensor will shift the loop rich. Any leak downstream won't effect it but it'll sure goof up a gas analyzer. You may not fail emissions but it'll give the analyzer a whacky lambda. Afterfire (backfire is an induction event) on decel is usually caused by (as...

    A/C recharge

They're not called "death kits" in the MVAC biz for nothing. You're making a big mistake by using one but I suppose it's too late now.

    Stock idle rpm?

Really. I'd be interested in hearing how this is accomplished. There is no procedure for doing it in the manual (nor should there be). Can you explain?

!OMG! I invented a SIMPLE way to set TPS !!!

Both sections of the TPS should be tested. The IDL contact can be checked and set several ways but since the throttle angle portion has no adjustment you have to live with what it gives you. The absolute best way to test the throttle angle part is with a scope. A TPS will develop a flat spot...

what oil to use for engine breakin?

I agree with all, especially IJ and IHI-RHC7. And don't baby the engine too much during break in.

    Whats your oil temp/pressure?

One of us is confused, probably over the language involved here ;). Unless the system has excess cooling capacity he could (and likely would) see well above 180. He wouldn't see much below it though.

!OMG! I invented a SIMPLE way to set TPS !!!

There are five levels of learning. Rote is at the bottom while correlation is at the top. Roughly speaking it's using a knowledge of what the end result should be to recognize there are many ways to skin a cat. Since he went right from the bottom to the top it's quite a breakthrough ;) That...

    Whats your oil temp/pressure?

I've used B&M coolers for several things. Stacked plate type. Good coolers. Most of the tranny ones will have a thermostat and different fittings. I'd use one for engine oil. The fan isn't needed unless you can't get airflow to it. Colin: He'd never see anything *below* 180. A t-stat can't cool...

    Electrical Connectors

Yeah, imho any type of IDC (Insulation Displacement Connector) is bad news in a car. If you want to do it right you'll use something like Amp PIDG crimp terminals.

    *Cad File Request*

Yeah, but I can break that $200 cutter in a heartbeat ;) Yours is real pretty while mine is an ancient pile of junk. It needs rebuilding. My Emco 11 lathe is a nice machine though, one of the best built out there. I do more lathe work but the mill is still nice to have. I've thought about...
