You might want to look at filter setup too. The screens in tranny pans are a joke. Permacool makes a spin on setup that goes inline. The Magnafine is OK too but small and a hassle to change. Work better for power steering. I run both temp controlled coolers and bypass filters on my cars with autos.
Listen to this guy, he knows his A/C. He's in the Mojave for crying out loud ;)
Yep, truer words were never spoken. Running year round keeps the shaft seal lubed, all kinds of good things. As for converting I keep badmouthing them but you can bet the death kits will continue flying off the...
That's $170. Lets see: $20 for a 609 cert, $45 for a manifold gage set and $50-60 for R12 (both from ebay), $10 for an AC book (free if you have a TSRM) and the rest on a cheap vacuum pump and beer (optional). Freedom from dependence on others? Priceless ;)
Lol at Ck.....
That's a interesting failure you've got there. No way for it to happen normally. You've either got a short in the diag block or wiring, a funky ecu (I doubt it), or you left the jumper in. Something is putting it in diag mode. Code 51 would be normal in the last situation whever...
Yeah, it's tough to think in terms of stock sometimes. The reason fuel cut is there to begin with is to protect against wastegate failure. I'll bet he left the hose off ;)
But 6 X 30 is 180 ;)
100 amps huh. That's why you asked about the relay. Sorry. In spite of my advice that's way more than I'd wire an aux block for. I can't think of much on a production car that you could add to need that. Good luck, feel free to PM me if you need anything esle.
Jake, the system needs to be pumped to at least 28 hg for a minimum of 30 minutes. The lower the better. It helps to do it when the engine bay is hot. This is why I'm not a fan of venturi pumps. Pumping is all about getting water out, not old refrigerant. That's long gone before you even pull...
Johnathan, not only is that possible but thats what the entire death kit thing is about. The oil circulates with the refrigerant and lubes the compressor. 134 can't carry the old R 12 oil. The way death kits cheat is to come with oil in the refrigerant but now you have both the new and old oil...
Well, the longer the arm the greater the moment. Think of a fulcrum. Sounds like it'll be fine. Heck, it's lasted this long but since I can tell you follow what I'm getting at it might be helpful in the future.
Oh, and that engine is a nice piece of work. The color on the car makes my diapers...
And you said you weren't electrically inclined ;)
jdub, technically speaking you should feed the block using a conductor sized to match the block's rating, not what loads you're going to put on it. You don't wire a 100 amp panel in a house for 30 amps just because you're only going to pull 30...
OK, I went back and looked again and now I'm confused (lol, happens often). Does that fitting go into the block or is it on a flex line? If on a line forget what I said. If in the block yeah, try and replace it with steel. Brass, like aluminum, has a finite fatige life even if the loading is...
Hey Racefiend, that sender setup on the right is bad news. When you have a big sender with a lot of mass and mount it using a brass fitting with a long moment arm you're just asking for a fatigue failure. Seen it happen more than a few times. If I were you I'd replace that fitting with steel or...
Hey, a guy has to do what a guy has to do.
I'l have a look next time I'm at AZ but I've never said death kits don't work. What I've said is if the oil didn't get changed or the kit "cheated" it you're living on borrowed time and when the compressor fails from lack of lubrication it's going...
The fuel filter in these cars is hard to change and often ignored. An easy way to check it's health is to flow test the fuel inlet into a jug. You can also check it by by using a current meter in place of the FP jumper but you'll have to factor the pump's condition into the measurement. If you...
jdub, that's just a fuse block? If you're gonna load it up run it from the bat and pilot it with a relay from the IGN. Or connect before the IGN and pilot it. Same thing but less hassle. You don't want to put to much current through the IGN switch as it carries quite a bit already.
Tell me...
Was that question directed at me? The situation I described in the post above will happen whether the car is in gear or not. Frankly, I doubt it's your TPS but the easiest way to settle this is simply unplug it and drive the car. If the problem remains, it's not the TPS. You should be able to...
I don't understand how you could've fractured a line and still have refrigerant in the system. Either you had a leak or you didn't. R-12 will get out a leak like that and keep going until the system is empty. For sure it'll do it in a hot engine compartment. However if you still have refrigerant...
