    Head bolt length

Lol. Family Guy episode: Stewie at ball game to kid in seat next to him: "I'll trade you my ice cream for your plastic bat" Kid: "OK". Hands over bat. Stewie, after keeping ice cream and smacking kid with bat: "Now, what did we learn?"

    A little warm?

We care Frank. We're all one big happy family here remember? ;) Typical CPS cover and gasket. Lives in a pretty tough place you know. Total of something like $7 at the dealer. I'm a bit puzzled why you'd think it had something to do with leaking and smoke though. Or did you pull the CPS for the...

Installing CPS (not a timing Q)

It's a standard metric O ring and goes in the groove. Just get it from the dealer. I use a gasket. End of leak story...forever.

egr gasket at the back of the head

It can be done. I used the same method as ilikebigbutts. The difference in my case was buying a set of 3 wrench/socket adapters for something like 6 bux. Handy tools they are. Throw something over the top of the engine so you can lay on it...

    low idle problem/cool water temp

On the idle speed...you're using an aftermarket oil pressure gage if I recall. Is it the stock gage still installed? If not what did you do with the input?

Can someone help me out please.

You don't have to set the engine to TDC. Just remove the CPS cover and mark where the reluctor is. It's good to look in there once in a while anyway. Reinstall the same way and check timing. Course, don't be turning the engine over while it's out. If you cut a gasket for the CPS you'll never...

    FPR VSV

The three way solenoid valves (VSVs) for the FPU system are the same on both engines. All they do is vent the FPR to atmosphere for about 90 seconds after start when the coolant temp is hot.

    testing the AFM and TPS

Between that and having to play 20 questions it'd be nice if you'd try not to make it harder than it already is...

    testing the AFM and TPS

As long as you don't have a code the TPS has nothing to do with your high idle. How did you "verify" it did? 1) Remove the TPS connector. Short IDL and E on the harness. 2) Also short T and E. 3) Check MIL for normal code (no code set). 4) Set timing back to stock. Under those...

LMAO. Using the "find all posts by" function shows that's a serious case of calling the kettle black...

    fuel or something

^ That is correct. In the N/A there's a switch in the AFM that does fuel pump control. In turbos the ECU handles the task. In neither car does the FP come on with the key.

Best silicone to use with a gasket?

Any will work as long as it's sensor safe. Fwiw the gasket should not leak. Your surfaces must be uneven, not torqued correctly, or something else is wrong. I've made TB gaskets out of everything from gasket sheet to beer cartons to cereal boxes and none leaked. From a gasket material standpoint...

    testing the AFM and TPS

What was the original symptom? I ask because there is only one that can be TPS related and yet not show codes and it's unlikely you would notice it because it doesn't effect driveability. Also this surging...does it do that on it's own or only when you press on the pedal?

further to my recent high idle speed thread

^ It's possible. It could also cause a high idle. You say the engine doesn't have a lambda sensor? I knew many cars in the UK come without it but I'm surprised to hear that's the case with any of these. So there's no catalyst either?

    Chroming parts?

I know a guy who polished a Delorean out to a mirror shine. Talk about a lot of work. He said it got more complaints than compliments. Yeah, the covers look plated. Stick to polishing Matt. Chrome plating is not a process you want to be around all day long...

    Is This Normal?

You're too nice to be doing the job you want to. Expect to end up like me ;) HEET? Is that the remove water stuff? Some kind of alcohol right? Couldn't hurt I guess. In aviation we sometimes try and leave the tanks full to avoid condensation space and use a similar additive for jet fuel. It's a...
