Fixing your girl's car
I've had this kickin around for a year now and I'd figure I'd post it. I know most of you people don't care but for whoever does, here's my story. Owned car since 2005, exhaust manifold was literally falling off the cylinder head. Helicoiled all exhaust studs a week after ownership. Then drove it 5 miles and got sick of the smoke screen from the CPS leaking so I pulled it and this is what I found....

Notice some nice melting of the dust seal? The inside of the dust cover also got a little toasted. I really don't know why I'm posting this, just to share I guess. CPS works fine. I've since replaced the dust cover and seal. Hasn't happened again since HG swap over a year ago. Just some residual effects of overheating a 7M.

We care Frank. We're all one big happy family here remember? ;)

Typical CPS cover and gasket. Lives in a pretty tough place you know. Total of something like $7 at the dealer. I'm a bit puzzled why you'd think it had something to do with leaking and smoke though. Or did you pull the CPS for the O ring?

I always wonder why Toyota didn't mount that on the intake side where it's nice and cool. Well, comparatively, of course.

I picked up one of the machined aluminum cover replacements from ARZ. Then I picked up the CPS rebuild kit and replaced the gear, pin, inner seal, outer O-ring, and the internal bearing all at the same time.

I wish there were some way to replace the electronics other than buying an entirely new unit, but it's still working well, so...
