^ Wise words. Preventive maintenance is always smart and the reason why after 22 years every component of my PS system is original. Syn fluid, cooling, and a filter go a long way towards the health of what is, and must be treated as, a hydraulic system. Fwiw my screen is always clean. I have yet...
I won't comment on this thread full 'o fail other than to say although not optimum the type and viscosity of oil used had nothing to do with your problem.
It wasn't meant to be a correction Ian. I was talking about the AC amplifier while I think you were talking about something else. If not then it was a correction. Then again since it's not possible for the AC amplifier to effect any of the servos/dampers (unless it's an OZ car thing) I dunno...
Fwiw after refining nearly all gasoline in the US (except in California) is distributed through just a few pipelines. It doesn't become Shell or any other brand until each firm's additives are put in at the tanker farm. Where the oil it's refined from originates is a different story of course...

Yours appears to be stepping open when the engine is shut down but not stepping closed. Could be a broken wire or bad pin at the connector. Either that or it failed open but yes, you need to check it. No need to install...
It opens the hole to better allow air to pass. On the other hand with it gone there's no jiggling action. In either case if it's not at 12 o'clock it's useless...
