Mine has been my DD for more than 8 years. It has also made several 1000+ mile trips without difficulty. It put me on the side of the road ONCE in that whole time. Not too bad if you just take care of the thing. The only other time it has been down a long time for MX was for a motor swap and...
If it is on in the morning, the overflow bottle is probably low, then when the car warms up and the coolant expands it will push some of it to the bottle and therefore turn the light off because it raises the float switch. At night when the coolant cools back down again, it gets sucked back to...
Just be VERY gentle with your needles. It's really not that hard to change your gauges, but getting them to indicate correctly may be a PITA. It took me about 4 tries to get the fuel quantity to indicate correctly. Pretty easy job overall, though.
If it is locked up, it does get pretty loud. Mine failed like that once. The downside is that can really wear on the water pump bearings. I have an extra Toyota fan clutch lying around if you think that might be your problem and you're interested.
Also, if you rad is fully topped off...
First, the light for the radiator is located in the overflow bottle, so if that is slightly low it may only come on when you hit bumps and make turns. It probably just needs a little bit more in there. For the fan clutch, it could fail so that it spins freely all the time and never locks up or...
Well, I pulled the turbo off again today and the hole was not too stripped and the bolt DID NOT break. What I mean is that SP used a really short bolt and with the added thickness of the bracket for the wastegate actuator, the bolt could only grip the first thread or two. You would think...
Well,
I was getting very close to finishing up my project today, but as I was tightening the compressor cover bolts after rotating the cover, one of the bolts holding the wastegate actuator on snapped in half! Now, this thing is brand new and it's not liked I torqued on it hard at all so I...
Are your parents going to make the payments on the new car? Sometimes new car payments can cost more than repairs to the old one. Part of the reason I never buy brand new cars. Anyway, if it was down to driving a Metro or deal with keep fixin' the Supra, it's gonna be all about the Sup...
I looked into this before and one of the benefits is that you don't need a pressurized system to raise the boiling point like we do. Instead of a 13 psi cap or so, you don't need one at all! Well, you still need a cap, but not a pressurized one. They sell complete systems for domestics, but...
