Mine are Sachs they just don't slow down at the end of the travel like the rears do :p (lift it an 6" and it rises by itself just with a clunk at the end)

They have a really nice damper stage at the end of the opening so you lift the hatch 6" then let it go up by itself and there's no CLUNK at the end.
As always there's a proviso....
If you can dress the end of the spring back to it's stock shape AND you have shocks valved to the new spring rate there's nothing at all "wrong" with cutting springs.
After having said this most here don't.
There is only xx traction/retardation to be had from street rubber, once a wheel is locked you're not slowing any quicker even if you have 36 piston callipers ;)
