It's got very little to do with FWD Vs RWD at this point it's more about learning to drive and getting some sort of situational awareness happening and that will happen no matter the platform, all it takes is seat time, something that may not happen if he buys an older car.
I'm NOT saying...
At best it's going to be a 20 year old car.... :nono:
NA's will have ALL of the same inherent issues as a GTE from being poorly maintained, the kid could buy a cheap relatively modern undesirable car for very little money use that as his DD/Learn how to actually drive car and have some $ left...
Same shit different bucket...
Buy something cheap/newer/reliable, consider it as a DD then pick up a "toy" later on, for now you want something to actually drive and not be working on 99% of the time.
1st car should be something cheap and reliable so you can gain experience driving, NOT a money pit that you might get to drive in a year or two after spending every cent you can find to repair and get it running properly.
I've been doing "Unique" since before most of our members were old enough to drive, trust me it's over rated...
You like the New Tech/Direction but are still going to use a Casst Iron lump to make a Lead Tipped Lawn Dart... ok..
Good luck with your build!
As I said in the old days we used to double up Composites, from memory I used GM headbolt sealer between them, for a long time I ran 3mm MHG's here on a stock Head/Block height and as mentioned it just makes it a bit sluggish off boost.
It'll bump the comp a little, there are online comp calculators around if you're concerned.
Might need to run better fuel to keep it out of detonation, 3 composite HG's were done in the old days no problems but it's a HUGE drop in compression and makes the car a SLUG off boost.
If you're set on a cheap cast iron V8 go the SBC then, forget all of the Brand Bullshit and go with cheap and pratical, much better bang for the $ with Chev.
Ahhh I see :D
I'd been using mine with a cast iron stock header after breaking a PermaCool adaptor in half....
Went to install the SSAC Header and WTF!!
Very welcome David!
Just got done tearing my 4L60E down, compared to a 340 it's like it's missing half the parts...
Still a 4 speed Trans just not sure where the rest of it is, I had to make a spring compressor to remove the low/reverse piston, much the same as I made for the 340, damn simple to make compared to...
