There is a machine shop that just did my friend's 7M and according to his long time Mercedes mechanic father the work done was impeccable. They will also do rebuilds and have worked on 7Ms previously. I don't know how much a rebuild will cost since my friend and his dad are obviously assembling...
Amsoil has the highest HTHS ratings, other then Redline; however Amsoil oils they say will still work in colder weather. Redline plasters all over their site that even the 10W-40 should only be used in hot climates or racing. And the 20W-50 is forbidden for anything other then race use. I assume...
I'm using 20W-50 Amsoil Synthetic, only due to more then one source indicating it can/should be used in this application.

I actually ordered a new OEM radiator when my PWR went bust a little while back and it had the "dangly" cap mounted on it when I got it. And like it has been stated before the dingly cap is not even close to the same dimensions of the sprung one, and wouldn't seal causing the problem you are seeing.
For me getting the stock carpet to fit back in where it came from was difficult enough. So it may take some sweat and profanity, but I'd be interested in seeing how it went as well.
I would just spend the money and buy a new tool (not off ebay of course, a NEW toyota one). I couldn't imagine how terrible the whole process would be with just an allen wrench.
I did it and its pretty straight forward. All you have to do is install it and jump these two screws with a piece of wire, I can't for the life of me remember where I saw the guide for it though.
