Based on my own experience, the semi-trailing arm rear suspension on the MKII is inferior to the double wishbone on the MKIII. The MKII rear end breaks loose with very little effort, whereas the MKIII sticks like glue. I don't want to start a flame war, its just my experience after owning both...
Thanks for the info everyone. From the EPC it looks like the breather is a pretty standard part across many Toyota's. I think I'll pick up a new one for about $10 and give it a try.

Here's a suggestion, if you put gasket sealer on the seal outer surface it will slide in much easier than if dry. IJ always recommended using the Permatex Indian Head sealer for this.

There are actually two plates. The silver metal shim, and a black plate with a slick (moly?) coating. The silver plate just provides a smooth surface for the black plate to contact. If you look at the pad itself, the backing plate is painted and pretty rough so the black plate would bind...
It should not run 200C without a thermostat. It should be running very cold instead. You have a cooling problem. I would start by examining the radiator for clogs.
It is also well know that proper air flow is critical. The shroud for the stock fan is critical to get uniform airflow...
Make sure the ground leads shown here (not attached in the picture) are attached to the bolt on the intake runners. Make sure the igniter was plugged back in. The other thing would be to check for any codes after cranking.
