Your motor should burn off all the moisture inside (from condensation) by itself if you actually drive it long enough to get it fully up to temp for any amount of time.
As far as reverse, all of these solutions just move the gears around the small amount necessary for them to mesh; like they said, its not synchronized.
As far as 1st gear goes, you can try a different fluid with little/no friction modifier in it (Redline 75W-90NS) and see if it helps...
