not the worst idea ever. i ran without one for a long time. actually, because i never had one, and it was broken off clean inside the harness, so i didn't know i was supposed to have one. ran fine.

I just did mine in the winter. It came off very well like that. Heat just bakes in the tar residue to the paint. I'd much rather the cold effect.
