Try a gun that runs on air with a bit more torque. Electric impacts are nice and convenient, but most are pretty useless when it comes to breaking bolts/nuts that are really snug. Most (not all, but I'd say 90%) electrics are rated to only ~100 - 150 ft/lbs where as most air ones are in excess...
How much power is "decent power"? You can come in right around 300rwhp without doing fuel mods on a 57-trim CT26. Exhaust is going to be a noticeable difference and shouldn't affect reliability at all. In terms of the engine build, if everything checks out in spec and it hasn't been BHG'd or...
I guess the chirping (or whatever) sound could be air escaping. Time to track down any leaks I guess.
Just to clear up a few things...
You eliminate the PCV by capping off the line going in to the accordion hose and the port on the throttle body so you don't blow out your oil seals, correct...
Ok, so I took the BOV off, cleaned it out with some brake clean, the put some WD-40 back in there to make sure it was well lubricated. Put it all back together and still the same issues :(. Hit fuel cut at 9psi (on the dot pretty much) and the BOV makes a bit of a chirp/wine when I let off...
I know that the recirc fitting on the BOV does leak, so it could be just escaping past there if the BOV is leaking. It recircs most of the air, but you can definitely feel some escape if you get it to actuate. On another note, if I'm pulling this apart, you think the gasket between the BOV and...
That's exactly what I was thinking. Well, we'll try messing with the BOV first and then see what happens, it just may need to be pulled off, cleaned, lubricated, and back together happy.
A GTE clutch fan with the shroud and proper panels underneath to direct the air through the radiator properly is going to do more than a cooler temp thermostat could ever do. As other have said before, it's only going to delay overheating if there is an issue, not prevent it. A lot of people...
As JJ said, not likely an air filter problem. Do you get waterfall noises behind the dash when you first startup your car in the morning? I'd burp the cooling system and hope that it's just an air pocket, otherwise start looking for signs of BHG :(
Just curious as to whether a leaking (recirculated) blow off valve would cause similar symptoms to a boost leak. I noticed just last week that my blow off valve was making a funny noise when I had it up at full boost over 4,000rpm and shifted. I'm going to take it off and clean it up...
I completely redid my cooling system just before this summer replacing it all with completely stock parts. With an ambient temperature of 80*F, my car will never get any warmer than 190*F, even after a well boosted drive. Car is running 12psi with a 57-trim CT-26, 2.5" hardpipes, 3" turbo back...
Could be because they forgot to put it back on after putting everything back together and having noticed it after finally getting all the gurgly noises out of the cooling system they really don't want to take that upper rad hose back off to put the timing cover back in....lol
Only time I've not resurfaced was when I knew it was resurfaced within the last 20,000 km, and that was only the block I didn't resurface (head was cracked and replaced). At the very least you'd still need to use a high grit (300+) sand paper or emery cloth to take off the old gasket material...
I paid ~$400 a few years ago from Toyota I believe. They're pretty pricey. They can be a pain to get off the car too, so be prepared for that if you're thinking of hitting up the wreckers.
Do I get to them just by taking off the shifter? Where abouts are they?
EDIT: So I take the shifter off to check the condition of those bushings and find 3 of the 4 bolts not threaded at all, and the last bolt barely hanging on to the extension housing....:nono:
All this because the...
New development today. I tried driving the car and found it hard to get in to a bunch of gears now. I thought that maybe one of the plugs didn't get tightened enough and the tranny was leaking, but there was no signs of any leak at all. I did find however that if I pushed the shift knob down...
