Who here is running an MR2 alternator in their car?

I'm running the mr2 alt. as well. Use a pulley from an '89+ and you should be golden, Ryan. The stock Soup plug fits np. If you have any probs locating one, I can get you a rebuilt one in Bby. for $140 cash from "buddy".

Champion Toyota in Houston, talk to Jeff, he'll hook you up proper. 17139437010. Pretty much the only place to buy dealership wise. Even in Canada its cheaper to buy there, and get it sent here.

    blown headgasket or something else

Pressure test your coolant system. Also, after the comp. test do a leak down test as well. Theres a writeup on here how to make your own tester cheaply with a comp. tester and some other parts. Think its here: http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2229 Hope its just a minor coolant...

N/A with oil squirters? Any benefit?

I can't see a downside to running a GTE block in n/a mode. You'd have the luxury of turboing it even easier down the road if you ever decided to go that route. Without a turbo the oil nozzles might be redundant, but its a non issue at that point.

    Cup Holder

You can get away without getting a new console lid , you need the '89+ cup holder, hinge, and front clip (that screws onto the lid). There'll be a slight gap with the old lid, but it'll still close with the newer clip.

    working out size of bearings

I think you'd better rethink your engine shop choice if they're not measuring every spec in your rebuild. Proper bearing clearances are one of the most critical things to a healthy motor. Err on the tight side of 'Yoda spec. Iirc .0016 sounds about right. Balance everything, get your rods...

If you're in Cali, there must be lots of 'mania members around, maybe someone can have a looksee. Or get it towed to Driftmotion and let guys who know these cars inside out do a tune on it and go from there. Read and learn everything you can about these cars. Be prepared to get your hands dirty...
