The main issue is they actually act as a seal to keep water and everything else out of the seal around the windows. I feel your pain though, mine used to be OK, but the Texas sun is not kind...
Was going to say you should be able to do it on the car because of the way the manifold is compared to the 7M that has crap in the way and is easier to remove from the engine.

No benefit unless the fans are off, and when they're on they're actually a bigger drag (because energy is lost in the conversion from mechanical=>electrical=>mechanical). Plus, a proper e-fan setup is more expensive than replacing a fan clutch...

Doubt it, more than likely it would decrease wear as the shifts seem a bit harsher (meaning faster and less slipping so less wear and heat). Still, an upgraded tranny cooler would be one of my first mods on an auto GTE...
