the t3d's FIRST "Performance before Appearance" BUILD THREAD!

since she's your ex, you might as well post all the other pics of her you have lying around..... :) Oh, and nice car by the way. I don't find the blue to be offensive at all. I've always had something for the black and blue combo...bruiser :)

I am waiting for a response about the shipping of the Supra Brake Shoes I sent you money for last week via paypal. We need to establish some communication here before I turn this into a problem....

LSD change, rebuild and other questions

Weir sells the full rebuild kit for somewhere just north of $200. I figured that a complete rebuild with both an upgraded clutch spring and their crush sleeve eliminator would run me around $300. I've set up a few diffs before so that aspect of it isn't scary, but it is certainly something that...

LSD change, rebuild and other questions

The stock LSD isn't set up right from the factory. Follow the link and get the appropriate upgrade spring and shims for your application and all will be right in the world. I believe the factory setup is just a friction plate against the spider gears. Toyota didn't provide enough pre-load to...

Project "so I have this widebody..."

A very unfortunate end to a potentially awesome car. I'm not sure I understand what exactly happened to cause this, but I think its safe to say you're lucky to be alive. Good luck with the insurance company....

I guess I get one of these now....?

Ah, well, spun bearings are spun bearings. If you want to quickly get it back together, acquire another crank with known good journals (because yours are probably trashed now), get a new set of both rod and crank bearings, drop the front crossmember with the engine still in the car, and do the...

I guess I get one of these now....?

Haha! Too true. My daily is a Volvo 940 wagon...slow, utility, reliable, and great for picking up parts :) I must say I don't really know the story you're referring to, but "broke" is a rather ambigous term. If you first thought it was mechanical, but now think it might be electrical, than...

    Removing Seats

Have you torn out the chassis harness and fuse boxes already? You should be able to just hook your battery up to the leads and power up the rest of the car as-is. If you've removed the ground wire from the engine block, just touch the ground to a clean spot on the chassis and you should be good...

    Leftynridge complete restoration build thread

Before sending that rear sub frame off, make sure you do a search on this forum about subframe cracks. Check it over VERY WELL before sending out for coating, as this is the time to fix anything you find. Love the clean-up. Looking forward to getting to this stage of my own rebuild. SG in NE

    wheel well rot

I'm right in the middle of extensive rust repair on the rear fenderwells of my '87. This is not a small job AT ALL but the way the car is built, if you have soggy rear wells, your rear suspension structural integrity is basically shot. The wells are very stout and translate (directly) the forces...

    1987 MK3 Resto

Just as a side note, antifreeze is incredably poisonous to the point where ingesting just one teaspoon will mean you need a blood transfusion ASAP. No joke. I know you cleaned off the hose real good before putting it near your mouth, but honestly that wasn't safe. Just want to make sure peeps...

    If I were to mention....

That is a smokin deal! Too bad I enjoy the build as much as I do the drive, or this would be a no-brainer. Thanks for the link. SG in NE

    If I were to mention....

I could, but only the purchase of the engine would be potentially "cheap"....everything else would cost 3 times as much. I like the small block Ford powerplants for a couple reasons. #1 is cost. They are a dime a dozen, make great power, and have tons of reasonably priced aftermarket support. #2...

    If I were to mention....

Too true. Too Very True. I might just sell the 302 I've got and pick up a 351 which I've had my eye on. Both need a rebuild, so at this point the build is apples to apples. Plus, 500hp N/A from a well built 351 does sound pretty good for "Stage 1" Good lord.

    If I were to mention....

I actually have been also considering an 351. It is a stronger block and capable of handling 600hp with stock internals. I already have a 302 which is why I'm going down this road though, so I might build the 302, run it until something blows up, and then build a 351. They share the same...

    7mge Na carb'd 250hp + not bad for na :P

Is it carb'd , or really ITB's (individual throttle bodies) ? It looks like ITB to me. I assume you're using a standalone. Megasquirt is the easiest I know of when converting to ITB... ?? Sounds great!

will a 1 ton foldable shop crane (cherry picker) be able to pull out the 7mgte

7M-GTE weighs under 700 lbs with the transmission attached, so since 1T = 2000 lbs, and 2000lbs is significanly more than 700 lbs, you should be fine. Be aware that Harbor Freight totally sucks for anything hydraulic, electrical, or pneumatic.

    1987 MK3 Resto

Seriously blown head gasket or just a bad radiator cap. I'd get a new cap with the factory correct pressure rating first. If that doesn't work than I'd suspect the coolant circuit is being pressurized from an outside source...i.e...head gasket leak. Oil in the coolant at all, or coolant in the oil?
