4.30:1 LSD Differential: How much is it worth?

Hey...I'd trade straight up for a good 3.7 LSD (or even a 3.9 LSD for that matter). Both parties pay for their own shipping and call it a day. You can't find Supra parts in the Northeast, so interstate commerce is my only option (or installing a new set of gears in my existing case). The...

    fuel setup question

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe putting two pumps inline with each other (series) will boost your flow. It could boost your pressure (like compound turbos), but to double your flow, you'd need to run the pumps in parallel (two units in the tank, or two inline units side by...

    Look whats for sale.

I feel like if this was done right, the taillights could have been incorporated into the stock rear valance for a unique and cool look....using the whole rear clip though....total fail. SG

My Car vs 2009 Porsche 997

I think it can be assumed that Porsche includes enough features to make any driver look good. German traction control is pretty darn amazing, and just having AWD provides a level of traction stability that negates a majority of driver error...especially in a drag launch scenario. SG

    Solid subframe bushings

Apologies. I didn't realize we were talking about mass production here. I have to agree...if your intention is to bang out 50 sets of these, aluminum is the way to go. For those of us who don't have a lathe in the garage (I'd hanker to say a significant amount more than those who don't have a...

4.30:1 LSD Differential: How much is it worth?

Hey there, I recently discovered that my '87 N/A Auto MK3 came from the factory with an optional 4.30:1 Limited Slip rear end. I'm doing a V8 swap in the car and really don't want short gears in the rear. Is there a market for a factory limited slip with this ratio? I know I can just get...

My Car vs 2009 Porsche 997

I think you'll be toast off the line and probably won't gain on him during the race, but in the end I don't think you'll embarass yourself. The 997, even in stock trim, is a serious machine. It has the traction to put down the power, and its got the power to smoke damn near anything on the...

    Solid subframe bushings

I asked this question in another thread on this topic and never got a reply, so I'll ask it here. Why not just bang out a number of steel discs from 3/8" plate with the correct OD to be welded on the top and bottom of the sub frame mounting points? Maybe a tube would need to be welded at the...

    If I were to mention....

My sentiment exactly :) The Ford motor with aluminum heads will weight less than the 7M-GE currently under the hood. The stock 5.0L with iron heads weighs around 480 lbs. I'm going with aluminum heads, so I'm figuring my long block will weight very close to the stock I-6.

    If I were to mention....

Ford's earlier overdrive transmission was the AOD...a few of the later ones were electronically controlled I think. The 4R70W is just a newer version with stouter components. It is rated to a "safe" 500 ft lbs of torque in stock trim. I should be ok. I'd be interested to hear more about that...

    If I were to mention....

I've got just enough progress now to justify a build thread. Being from the Northeast USA, I'm dealing with rust. The first phase of the project is fixing some issues in the wheel wells out back. While I've been working out there, I removed the spare tire well to make way for a rear mounted...

    Who makes solid subframe bushings

Is there any reason a top and bottom plate couldn't be just machined from 3/8" steel plate, welded to the subframe at the 6 mounting locations, and bolted up? I don't see any difference doing this compared to aluminum aside from the significant cost savings. Metal bushings are metal bushings at...

    eraezer - Supra MK3 -89 -Swedish Build

The metal on metal sound won't come from any sort of ignition issue (due to plugs, wires, or ECU). I suppose it could be coming from a dry power steering pump, but if that's the case, you better start shopping for a new pump. I would highly recommend finding the source of that noise and fixing...

    eraezer - Supra MK3 -89 -Swedish Build

I thought the same thing. There is too much "metallic" sound in there. I know you don't have exhaust, but there shouldn't be any metal on metal sounds, regardless of that fact. I don't believe you've done anything to the engine during this project...was it ok when you parked the car? Just...

    weight reduction

I just ripped all of the plastic sound deadening stuff out from the front floor pans, transmission tunnel, rear seat pan, and trunk. All said, JUST the sound deadener was around 100 lbs. I've never seen so much of the stuff installed in a car in my life. The entire interior of the car is now...

    If I were to mention....

Well that's a relief. Nothing can be cheaper to both buy and build than a domestic V8. Regardless, I'll be sure to look at the 1UZ. I just picked up an '87 N/A Auto for the sole purpose of doing an engine swap. I have a Ford 302 which will be fully built for a single turbo. The plan is to back...

    eraezer - Supra MK3 -89 -Swedish Build

Great restoration! I am about to start cutting rust out of my "new" '87 MKIII. It was very helpful to see your pictures and get an idea of what I'll see once I get in there. What kind of welding gas are you using? It seems like your welds aren't hot enough. A weld bead that sits on top of...

    Milo's Booster Seat...

So, this thread has about 30 pages of actual content, and then another 300+ of banter, and in the end, the car is rotting away, unfinished. Really nice work...2 years ago. :) I'm in the market for some suspension parts whenever you start parting it out. SG
