well compressor surge is never good, however if his GT40 was BB it should have lasted longer from what I've seen. My japanese friends dont run BOV's at all, but thats another issue.

There's so many parts that are unknown that I've seen for a number of JDM cars.. you have to wonder how many of those no name exhausts or other mods like downpipes etc. are actually by well known companies, small companies or just a custom job. A lot of them look a little too perfect to be a fab...
