yeah. it's so weird. before the catch can hookup the dipstick never did that. maybe the catch can isn't free flowing enough. has anyone ever hooked up the can directly from the block hose? other than this issue, the engine runs mint. i was hoping that some of the smoking was the turbo, but i'm...
ok guys, i need some advice..... i recently threw together a motor and put it in the car. everything looked good except the crank and lower end bearings. i threw a mint crank in and all new bearings, along with a new shimmed oil pump... before the swap i was having issues with smoking...
most do not. i would go with some sort of heat insulating wrap. i never had anything on my gsx hood, but if i get one for the supra i'll probably do the gold heat reflecting stuff.
make sure you take care of that leak. my buddies sti went up in flames because of an oil leak.

i took a nice spirited drive on the highway. found my dipstick pushed up and oil everywhere after. :(
i made a spring retainer for to hold the stick down for now, and i'm starting another rebuild list. :(
300 is well within reach. i'm hopefully just past that with my mods. start saving up for the lex-550 mod. you won't believe the difference between 8psi and 15.
i think as far as manual controllers go, that hallman is the best one. if i didn't have a greddy profec, i'd go with a hallman.
there's a local shop here that sells them for less....

they just bolt right on. it will take a little patience to install though. one of the bottom bolts is a pita to get to. i had to notch my dp to get a bolt on the stud. also, if your car is really low, be prepared for the dp to scrape as there's not much ground clearance. i may actually cut...
just an update. i ended up getting a catchcan from stmtuned.com. i routed it inline between the throttle body and the intake hose. there has been less smoking so far, but i plan to change the setup again. here's how it is set up for now....
i've searched every thread about the proper...
not sure if i ever started a build thread, but here's a recap.....
i picked up the car in october 2010, not running but very cheap. $600. yay
it's a florida car and had only 104,000 miles on it. i was told that the motor was rebuilt and it had a 5 speed swap. the car was totally rust free...
i spent hours trying to figure this out too..... i have the same setup as you, and i finally decided on ngk iridiums. i stayed with the stock heat range as suggested by someone who has a 700hp mk3.
installed my catch can today. also polished up a spare compressor housing and igniter. i also did the ground mod to the igniter.
i spent the last few days worrying how to hook up the catch can. i've seen 50 different ways to do it. i decided to run it inline with the stock piping.
well, here's what i found..............
i did a leakdown on the first 3 cylinders and found..... 4.5%, 9.5%, and 15%. i stopped there and added a little oil to cyl 3, and is showed less leakdown.
looks like i'll be tearing this motor down again...... oh well.....
