Im running 14psi on a stock HG ..... Sounds like your machinist gave u a 6 for a 9. Did you ever ask them about which tq values they used? Toyota or ARP? What about the RA values? If they did not use the right ones i will get them to redo the HG job. Your car is beast dont get rid of it yet.
dude he is not asking if its needed to complete his cams and port and polish .... he is asking if its good idea to do valves and spring while he is at.
I agree 100% do it right the first time, but my thoughts about this question is just based on the whole mkiii way of doing things. Not all, but the majority. If you are building a "high output" motor that has gone as far as a cam upgrade along with the port and polish why would you second guess...
grim i agree 100% however his question was "Are upgraded valves and springs necessary?" to break 500-600hp and the simple answer is NO if his question was do you think it would be a good idea ....... hell yea!
