    7M-GTE Build 650hp+ needs advice

So is it an oem transmission or a GM transmission? Not saying a well built a340e is not a good trans, just that if the shop that did it is claiming it will hold 1500hp, then they are full of something.

Built motor, instant rod knock, Advice going forward?

call me again Grim if you need any more help. The center wear on the main bearing might be from the main bearing housing hole being too tight for the clevite main bearing. If the housing bore was bored too small, then it will squeeze the main bearing at the points that they touch, which will...

    7M-GTE Build 650hp+ needs advice

I am wondering about the 1500hp transmission. Fully built th400 or powerglide? OEM a340e even with every upgrade you can do will explode if you try to put 1500 hp to it. I would not even want to put 700 on one.

    ATI custom damper

To add to this Moy, what we mean is running your foot on the floor producing the power non stop all day long as if you was running the Daytona 500. No street car is gong to do this. If you had 850 HP, you would only be using that amount of power for very short busrts which the off the shelf ATI...

Oil pump shaft can't get into the bearing

On a crankshaft, you would cut/polish the crank to make bearing clearance and not the bearings themselves. On the oil shaft however, it is a pressed in bearing and sometimes tends to deflect and not be 100% round. Cutting the bearing will true the bearing to the shaft. If you cut the shaft, the...

Rich's Garage. Other work being done

Oil Shaft Bearing installation *Please Help*

I use a cutter. Not a hone, it makes a lot less mess. If you use a hone, you may need to break the motor down first so that the block can be cleaned after you are done. A cutter you may get away with putting some grease on the cutter to catch the slag. Or you could pull the oem bearigs, and try...

Oil Shaft Bearing installation *Please Help*

Yes, it is "undersize" meaning it has a smaller inside diameter than the shaft. The bearing needs to be cut to size. Never machine the shaft. Dura Bond bearings are much closer to size and many times do not need to be cut.

Looking for some feedback/info on cams...

264 and 272 are not a measurement of a cams "size" It is only the "advertised" duration. 264 and 272 are only two of many many different cam grind durations available. My 274 7.7mm lift cams are tiny compared to some of my 256 duration 12.3mm lift cams. So many other numbers make up a cams...

    machine shop question

Never seen a 83mm bore 7m head gasket. Even the oem gasket is a larger bore than std piston bore. 84mm and 86mm gasket bore is the std. Lots of gaskets sizes are made between the sizes of 1.4 and 2.0 also, so don't just settle for one of two sizes you mentioned.

Oil pump shaft can't get into the bearing

NO NO NO. The bearing comes as a undersize bearing from Toyota. After the bearings are installed, you must cut or hone them to size to match you shaft. NEVER NEVER reduce the size of the shaft to fit the bearing. I install a set of these bearing every two weeks on average. Every oem set I have...

    maine and rod bearings

As mentioned, for oem bearings, you need to check the oil clearance for each rod and main journal and order the correct oem bearing for each one.

    ATI custom damper

The ATI uses elastomer bands inside to dampen. not Aluminum. ATI does provide instructions to install, and they do mention honing the hub. They give a specific amount of interference fit, and to hone the hub if needed. That is a generic type instruction however and does not really apply to the...
