I'm wondering about a solution for this as well. All said and done, an MPH reading shouldnt be too hard to set up, but I'd really like to still have a working odometer, and really dont want to destroy a perfectly good cluster to make space for stuff like this.

Normally I would suggest getting a lifetime warranty slave from a place like AutoZone, since in the Miata world they seem to need replacement yearly, but the fancier clutch kits that use an internal slave seem to work well.

The only reason a blanket "reduces the life of a turbo" is because it supposedly traps condensation and speeds up corrosion of the housing. I'm personally a fan of ceramic coating and metal shields in place of it. If they didnt work well, I doubt there would be nearly as many people using them...
