I'll throw in my couple cents.
buy yourself some new silicone vacuum lines if you're worried about problems.. as long as there are no leaks, there is no downside to having vacuum operated systems on the car, it was designed to work with them.
sounds like it works well to me! cool! thanks for the info. Jdub posted up some very eye opening results when he measured EGTs with the EGR installed aswell.
chico,
I'm no engine building expert but I can lend some advice... Until you posted pics I would have suggested getting a second opinion. However, those coolant passages do look severely damaged and the corrosion has effected the area on the head gasket surface - the achiles heel of our motors...
the cover looks awkward where it is now.
I'd take the cover off. just keep the coil packs clean, wipe them with some trim shine from time to time, will look great!
aside from that, the engine bay looks amazing! you've done an incredible job!
your motor likely came from a cressida, which is a front sump engine. Thus, you had to put your supras mid sump pan and pump in. Because it's japanese, it didn't have EGR stuff and you had to swap that aswell.
N/A supras did exist in japan. it's my understanding that the connector for the ecu...
oil level has nothing to do with viscosity, and everything to do with where the oil is sitting.
like IJ said:
- unstarted (so it's all in the pan)
- level ground
The cooler will be removed, I'm aware how the EGR works. The EGR actually works on all cylinders, but it only draws exhaust gasses from one. The exhaust gasses reach every cylinder. It's not about re-burning exhaust....it's about displacing/supplementing for oxygen on the intake side.
There are...
well, I ended up buying one. As far as I can tell, this is the safest way of removing the EGR. The ECU will be aware there isn't one, thus less aggressive timing maps under high load, part throttle conditions, hopefully reducing the chances of detonation (compared to a US ECU with no egr)...
I need an ECU for my 7mge engine I'll be putting in my mk2...
my engine came out of a US car but all EGR equipment was removed, instead of tracking down the EGR parts, i'm going to throw some EGR blockoff plates on it.
since my car is an 84, I'll have no emissions testing...but plan to keep...
Hey guys,
I need a pic of a 7m on an engine stand, from the front/intake side....would be nice if it highlighted the lower alternator bracket.
my motor did not come with a lower bracket, bolts or A/C bracket. I'd like to know if it requires the A/C bracket to bolt to the block and exactly...
thanks guys! no rush here, I have university to keep me busy. This is a good stress release when I have some spare time. my 5m is still operating just fine (albeit slower than it should be) and the car is stored for the winter now anyways.
I'm currently thinking I'll bypass the the camshaft...
update yaay! I made some great progress on the head lately, here's a couple finished intake ports!
short side radius is cleaned up, valve guides are countered and I have a better "ramp" up to the valve guide. I narrowed the port dividers and rounded them. I was worried about knife-edging them...
Ron,
you've created something truely amazing. I've seen a fair amount of modified supras, and I can honestly say i've never seen anything quite as amazing or thorough as your modifications have been to your car. everything is above and beyond race-spec parts. drysump and motec pretty much says...
lovely!
those black braided lines do look really nice.
did you weld that oil cooler mount to the intercooler yourself? that's a great idea. certainly simplifies the mounting situation. I also love how you mounted the thermostat directly to the cooler, reducing joints.
where's the accusump? :D
George, you know how i feel about this project. Those wheels are going to look awesome on there, they look so good in person.
He's holding out on you guys though. That isn't a normal HKS sport turbo...it's had some modifications done. and you must understand that dyno was with no boost...
