    Motor Maddness!!

this is the downside of forums: - some can say with absolute certainty what the answer is....and be completely wrong. - some can read the right answer and still think completely wrong...

Want to Polish My Valve Covers

I haven't sold any polished work in the past but have been asked to. I have considered it, and if some time frees up I may offer services. two problems though 1) reducing the time it takes. With my mainly hand sanding technique, it takes far too long and the cost would be insane...either...

    Need a little Help....

double check the cam timing. -motor at TDC -cam gears alligned on the correct dowels -dots on cam gears aligned with dots on rear timing cover. once you've double checked it, get a friend over to check it again. if your timing is correct, I suspect one of the gears is off a tooth, or the dowel...

    Need a little Help....

that's normal. The ECU (to my understanding) does not adjust static timing once warm. it would show no direct effect with it at idle between it plugged and not plugged, but could show issues when driving the car. if you are following the TSRM's instructions, there shouldn't be an issue.

    Need a little Help....

you need to jump the diagnostic block with a paper clip or wire (as per the TSRM) when checking the timing so the ECU knows what the static (base) timing is correctly set. if you were to bump the timing up to say 15 degrees and the ECU think it's at say 5 degrees, you'd probably get some...

Want to Polish My Valve Covers

intersting. I cleaned thoroughly with degreaser, dish soap and finally acetone before painting. I have since learned that I should have used something to remove any silicone that was left...but I thought it was clean. you noticed no change in the image when using the AP-120? I'm currently...

Want to Polish My Valve Covers

I did immediatley after polishing them. I had a local autobody shop spray it on. after three years, the clear coat broke where the tire rubs the wheel edge. I sprayed them before mounting the tires and had them wrap the clear around the inside to help prevent this, but it still happened. a...

Want to Polish My Valve Covers

here's a write up I did on the celicasupra forums on how to polish wheels to a mirror finish. the same theories apply to any type of aluminum. A palm sander or grease less compound can dramatically cut down on sanding time. in any effect, wet sanding has to take place from 400 up. in theory you...

7MGTE spark plug for $25 EACH?

people have had good luck with them cleaning up idles and upper rpm in 5ms (at least a few) ignition system is pretty adequate in mk2s aswell. consider it performance like a copper plug (maybe a little better) but the longevity of a platinum plug.

Proper Engine Break-in Oil and When to Switch to Synthetic Oil

Jdub, what's the theory for using a constant weight oil? I'm assuming when you say 30w it is NOT multi viscosity oil? It was my understanding you want the car to be warmed up before you start the 3/4 throttle pulls to seat the rings. If so, then how could it hurt running a 5w-30 or 10w-30 for...
