    Don't grind the valve stem

Just put my engine together runs great except that it sounds like a deisel. I pulled the valve covers and found the clearances to be .019 to .021 on the exhaust side. I am thinking that when the machine shop "rebuilt" the head they probably cut .010 off all of the valve stems as this would be...

    are bosch platinum good sparkplugs?

We often had DIY'rs that brought their Diamantes, Monteros etc into the shop complaining of poor idle, lousy driveablity etc after doing a tune up with Bosch Platinum plugs. 9 times out of 10 installing factory plugs would cure the problem. I don't understand the science (narrower insulator...

The reason I want an alltrac and a Supra.

Yesterday brought another 12" of "the greatest snow on earth" with more on the way! The Supra stays safely parked in the driveway until I can see the asphalt. (hitting boost on an icey road makes the car do scary things) And in my humble 22 years of working for the logo opinion, nothing...

    Original Engine?

Often replacement engines have a heat sink button (I think that is what they are called) that indicates if the engine has been overheated attached to a water jacket core plug. You might check for that.

    engine rebuild

Its not like a 350 where it can be primed with a drill. Spinning the oil pump shaft or crankshaft by hand won't do anything since you can't spin it fast enough to generate any kind of pressure. Use a good quality assembly lube and fill the oil filter before installing it. You might consider...

I would suggest using a tube of Toyota's black engine sealant for the oil pan and anything else that you don't want to leak. Toss the cork gasket.

how many miles till break in
