Mine is very smooth most of the time. The only time I notice any type of roughness/shake is during the short time (10 to 15 seconds) of transition between open/closed loop. This does not concern me at all. It's just me being anal. 99.9% of owners would never even notice it.

Perform a compression and leakdown test before you jump to conclusions. You won't know the general health of the motor until you see those numbers. After that you can look further.
