When the freon can is upside down, it will charge as a liquid. Bye-bye compressor, and the resulting debris will go thru the system.

Also, if the evaporator is icing up, you will have alot of water coming out of the drain on shut-down. (if it is not blocked)

Perform a compression and leakdown test before you jump to conclusions. You won't know the general health of the motor until you see those numbers. After that you can look further.
