I have been studying oil for about 3 hours today in this section and countless hours over the past week.
When I did an oil change the other day, I put in pennzoil platinum 5w20, a fellow member told me it was too thin for an old engine and recommended a 10w30
I then checked the oil...

1.5 jz!!! why not? super strong 2jz 3.0 block. super flowing 1jz head.
I say rebuild the 1jz head
rebuild the 2jz block, get it ready for turbo and slap them both together!
I just read up, correct me if im wrong but cst is centistokes, the cst measurements for motor oil is the time it takes to circulate, so the lower the number the better! Am I correct or is it vice versa? higher number means quicker circulation?
I am really not understanding, everytime I choose oil I always get so confused and what not. I have read all the stickies in the oil and lubrication section and still dont understand oil! according to the oil viscosity chart, the oil I have has a lower cst then the castrol syntec GC, the cst's...
I didnt think they would sell just the gasket, Ill pick one up.
thick oil? I switched from pennzoil platinum 5w20 because I was told by a fellow member that it was too thin! I checked the oil viscosity chart and its cst is 63.4 at 60 celsius and 10.5 at 100 celsius, Is that really that thick...
trying with all my might... Im only 17 making 650 a month so money is gonna suck! Probably going to replace the water pump and knock sensor right now since I have the parts, no water pump gasket though. Will fipg work on a water pump?
This is not a "help me, what do I do next" thread.
Ok I did all of my basic maintenance except for my sparkplugs, waiting on new coils. I did an auto to manual swap because the bad condition the tranny was in. I decided to write down a few things I have discovered while under the car!
First...
thanks for the info! So the jt2 number is my actual vin code (of course) and the extra number on my chassis is my chassis code. The chassis code is just to classify the type of chassis it is, just like the paint code, engine code and differential code. The power of knowledge. Thanks for the info...
cool to know that this is normal!
I just noticed that on the sticker on my door it has both vin codes, the same from under the hood (ma70) and the same one everywhere else (ma71)
any info on this?
BTW, anyone have something to check what these 18 records are on my car?
I understand that, but what I dont understand is why I have 2 different vin codes, I ran the vin code that was under the hood and it said it wasnt even valid! my other vin has like 18 records, but I cant see them cuz I didnt pay!
I was looking at my 1990 targa top, 7mgte, abs, tems supra and noticed something wierd!
My vin code under the hood is ma70-***7064
My vin code around the rest of my car (doors, dash, everywhere else) says jt2ma71n4l0***064.
I've never looked into vin codes and how they are made for each...
I want to do a 2.5, I heard anything smaller than that wont get enough airflow, anything larger wont have enough pressure. BUT, I also heard a larger turbo or more boost loves the larger pipes. Someone please correct me if im wrong for learning purposes!
only about 40 mi.
I dont know if this is correct but in my n/a my oil pressure will be a little bit below 40 at idle. I gave my car a fresh oil change a pureone filter and 6 qt of 5w-20 synthetic oil, when at operating temps, it idles at the line before 40, 20 i believe. Is this normal or...
