If you want a stout bottom end for cheap just copy me and do a 2jzge swap. Read my thread for details.
It sounds like you dont have any upgrades yet so now is the time to decide what to do.
Here is a hint: just because it is listed in a vendors catalog doesnt mean that you need it.
To expand on that, I had a few issues getting my ignition to work right. From looking around at different setups, it seems that a lot of guys that are using the 2j boxes are using the lexus COP setups. I know that you have a 7M box but I think the pinouts are similar.
Justin is using a lexus...
.19 gap seems kind of small but im sure you tried it with a .30 or a .25 gap as well.
Also, did you try running different versions of firmware?
Before I went and ditched the AEM, I would purchase a COP ignition setup from a VVTI 2jz. It is still a wasted spark setup but I have seen them...
I have a 2j COP setup so Im not sure about settings for your car as far as dwell goes. I think that the 2jz ignitor controlls dwell automatically regardless of the settings on the AEM. I dont know what the 7m ignitor does though.
What kind of plug gap are you running? Did you try to drop the...
What kind of grounding are you using? For my AEM seup I have thick bonding and grounding cables on everyting. Chassis-block, transmission-chassis, battery-block, battery-chassis.
Description of your problem sounds like a grounding issue possibly coupled with an RF emission from your spark...
Actually the TSRM says that to check the stretch in a bolt all you have to do is measure the diameter of the bolt with a micrometer. Anyone building an engine should have a micrometer. If any portion of it is smaller than the spec it is out of tolerance. Its a pretty big tolerance too - its easy...
I ended up removing the resistors alltogether. The dual walboros didnt like it and they would not maintain fuel pressure. I ended up using a completely separate relay and using a switched ground from the AEM to fire em up.
You can reuse all of the 2j hardware if it measures in spec. The 2jzge and gte rods are the exact same. The pistons are the same material but just a slightly different shape to change c/r.
Read my build thread and all the links in the first post and you will know all you neet to know about...
Yeah the stock clutch has single splines around the transmission input shaft but you probably wont be able to see it. I think the stock plate says AISIN on it somewhere....
The hole on one of the bearings should line up with the oil hole in the block or rod. They make the top and bottom halves the same to minimize manufacturing cost and keep it simple.
If they are smooth and they plastigauge out ok then I wouldnt be concerned.
Also - I think that the rod bolts are torque to yield - you may have to replace them since you pulled them apart.... One more reason why I hate the 7M. I have always replaced the stud-style rod bolts since my...
I was considering purchasing an AR15 recently but Ive been too busy buying car parts. On special occasions or extensive road travel I carry a 9mm Springfield XD-90. For serious threats I break out my .22 Marlin rifle.
Pull out the motor and take off the cover plate for the rotary switch contacts. The plastic cover plate is on the front side of where the rotating post is. The contacts are probably dirty, etc.
So im assuming that all of you that reviewed have the one in the top picture?
The skinny one on the bottom pic looks like it comes straight up. I dont know if I would like that.....
Now before you respond with a "they suck" or any other type of input based on what you have heard other people say, I want to get this out on the table.
Please dont reply unless you have some real experience with this, and if you do then explain why it sucks or why you like it. Most people...
