i would pressure test the cooling system and do a compression test (and leak down test if possible) before tearing the thing apart. if everything checks out, just get your cooling system up to par.

the 1jz is just as vunerable to damage from over heating as the 7m. they are both aluminum head, cast iron block motors. the block deak can warp though it takes more heat to do it.

it can also be an input shaft bearing. mine is currently making some noise, im either going to replace the bearings or throw another tranny in there.

i hear that the soarer ecu is a better unit over the 1jz supra ecu. just throwin that out there. i used a soarer 1jz and ecu, no real difficulties with the install.
