But seriously - I think that your gauge uses the red as a primary power source and the orange as a switch input for the relay to turn the illumination on. I dont think you have the option for dimming the light but I could be wrong.

1 million watts? Uhm I am wondering how they figure that since W=VxA.... Do they have a capacitor triggered by a spark signal or something? How do they store the power? Standard plug voltage is 40000 to 100000 volts so I guess they are either dramatically increasing the voltage to 500k or...
So the block and head were milled but im guessing that they werent really cut down too far... The most cost-effective way to make more power with that motor will be to raise the c/r significantly.

Look at the repair manual in the link and verify that you have the ignitor wired up correctly. Since you say that it is cutting out at 3k rpms even when there is no load on the engine it sounds like an ignition problem or a problem with the cam/crank signal to the ecu being interrupted. Perhaps...
