I can never understand why people post such harsh comments as to what someone else plans to do with their own car.

Let me restate the facts:
it is his car
it is meant to keep him happy
99% of the people on this board would probably never see it in person anyways

Purpose 1 of cars: to take a driver/passengers from point A to point B.
Purpose 2 of cars: for the sake of the owner's enjoyment and hobby

Do what ever makes you happy. It will really not affect the image of my car or anyone else's car really. It will also not change the market value of other Supras - as some will have you believe.

Now there are guys that use transmissions from other cars. They can do that because they are faster than anyone else. God help those that aren't top dog, they are the ones that don't get props for being different.

How many people here have aftermarket parts? Who is to say you can change this part, but not that part? For the sake of argument, I could say the Supra was really intended as a GT cruiser, not a drag car. (That is what Toyota intended.) One could say, why are you bastardizing that car with non Toyota parts?! Why not keep it original? Just taking the logic of some and applying it in other applications to show it makes little sense to me.

At least this guy is fixing the car. He had a branch fall on it recently, IIRC, from the hurricane. Others may have sent it to the yard and said, "the motor was shot anyways," and they would have received no flak.

If you do something not of good taste (and I really can't say) you just don't praised by others. But mcpcola, seems to be building this car for himself, not for others -- I respect that.

Then let him keep his dumb ass ideas to himself. If you ain't open to critisim, you shouldn't post in a public forum..just sayin.

As outofstep said, the 15 second club running off at the mouth. Criticism should be constructive, informative, and based on knowledge. Saying he is doing this because he cant afford to do a 7m right is outlandish. Power costs money and the 7m isnt the most cost effective way to get there. Some people need to step away from the mkIII circle jerk. The car will not be a classic, you cant decrese the value of a $1500-$2500 car by doing what you want. People cut up the cars way worse and never take the 7m out.

If your plans are for more then 400hp the w58 wont hold for too long would really love too see this project come along either way.

But how heavy is the 5.0 motor I think the 7m is like 500lbs

The 5.0 has so many transmission options, I'd stick with what works on that motor, and leave the W58 out of the picture. (TKO is a great transmission, and you can get ratio's that will work with your stock rear end.)

The 5.0 with a medium sized turbo where the exhaust can sits is a great idea. (See STS turbo's, they are doing it now.)

NA to NA, the 5.0 is faster. (Question of displacement and when the tourqe peaks.)

However, vs the 7MGTE stock, it's a toss up. With some simple mods, the turbo can be faster, but the Mustang is no trailer queen. There are many of them running 10's on stock looking bodies all over the country. Mods are cheap and easy to do for this Ford motor as well.

That being said, you are in for a long process to get it running right, placed into the car, and everything hooked up and working. (AC, PS, CC etc.) If I was going to spend the time and money doing a V8 swap, I'd start with the newer LS3 engines, like a 6L truck version, and put the STS turbo in the back like I said. (Oh, 600+ RWHP would be fine I suppose, and tourqe to knock your socks off everywhere.) Plus you could run a 4 speed GM auto trans, and really kick ass at the drags too. (Should be a 10 sec possible even on the IRS.)

funny thing is i have seen just as much problems with chevy 350's, ford's 302's, just like i have the 7mgte. It doesnt matter what motor it is, if it wasn't taken care of it will crap out on ya. Do a 5.0 swap. but remember 7mgte Vs stock 5.0.. 7mgte has more hp. Not only that but some of the money you will spend towards custom making some parts to fit would have payed for your build. i knew of a guy that dropped a 350 in his supra and i'm sure most of you have seen his site where the game warden pulled him over.... o well do what ya want man. But if it was me i wouldnt expect people to be behind doing it since u are infact on a supraforum.

Man some people just don't get it. Some of us here are Supra enthusiasts. To my generation, the Supra is like the 69 Camero or Mustang of my dad's generation. To mod out a Supra engine is cool, but to drop a Cougar engine in it is blasphemy. It'd be like droppin a Ford engine in a classic camero or vice versa. I personally don't care what this car is worth by Blue Book standards, I love it because it's a Supra. It's the last unicorn for guys in my age group. The ultimate ride in a class of imports from my day. To gut her and throw in any old engine is a cheap and soulless move. JMO, but then again, WTF do I know, right? :3d_frown:

BTW the 7m is toast the head is warp to the point it cracked and dropped some valves and it is not how i maintained the car as i have only it for a month. i replaced the entire cooling system and still had a problem. I love the style of the car and rather than tow her off to the junk yard to rust away i am doing a swap that i know and can do. Bellow Automotive in australia has done hundreds of 302 to w58 convertions that people are putting in to Volvos to race so i know it is being done ( I may keep the AOD auto but i need to check to see what she can handle first) but i am keeping the image of the supra and the power of the V8  . Also as i have stated i am not just throwing the motor in i am building it with new pistons rings bearing and cam with ported heads and larger valves. After it is in and running i will post pics and then comes the forced induction

if it retains a Supra motor, it still has it's heart. If someone does it all with our obvious inferior I-6 motor then they will be respected for doing so.

You're just a moron.

Why not just buy a Cougar? A Supra with a crappy Cougar engine ain't a Supra, it's a dressed up Cougar.

I don't get it...I've heard of a lot of cats stickin Chevy engines in these cars...Why not take care of your engine and drive a REAL Supra? :nono:

i say if you have the means to and you wanna do it go for it personally id think it be pretty cool
