Well, yesterday my coolant hose on the back of the head blew out on my way home from work...
jutu4ava.jpg

Cut it and fixed it...
Then this morning on my way to work, jumped onto the highway and as I did my RPMs shot to 7k and stayed there without any throttle... Saw oil shooting out the block and hitting the down pipe and burning into a cloud in my rearview mirror... Pulled over and discovered that the tube that holds the dipstick had shot out the block and launched oil all over the side... Open and closed the throttle a bunch of times and the RPM issue went away, must have been stuck. Glad that's fixed. When I first saw the oil cloud I instantly thought, "Fuck me, there goes my engine..."

Car is finally getting put back together, flywheel gave us a little trouble but we got it on there with the ARP bolts and torqued to 70 ft lbs according to ARP. Car will hopefully be done today and I pick it up tomorrow barring any issues that hopefully won't surprise us.

It seems odd that it would shoot the dipstick tube out.
I'd do a compression check before firing it up again. There is a chance you're getting blow by and pressurizing the crankcase.

She is finally put back together other than the dash and center console but we dropped the lift and fired her up, took a bit to fire up but she started and the clutch is working fine we changed the tranny fluid to Redline MT90 and the LSD fluid with Mobile 1 LS gear oil. Didn't get to take her out for a spin because I had to go to work also the dash was not put together but I am picking her up monday morning. Also I think I found my oil leak, CPS O ring is probably leaking I have one at home if I am not mistake but I will find out monday morning when I try out the new one I have.

Yeah, I was thinking the exact same thing. I've got a guy who wants to trade for it. I just might end up doing that lol. I do have two other Supras anyway.

But you never know. I find the dip stick in my car comes loose all the time.
I've done a compression test and found everything was good @ 140-160 (this was on a cold engine, it would probably be closer together if it was tested when at temperature).

Looks a lot better. Did you take it all apart and do it that way?

Thanks! I just did a quick job so I kept it all together and sprayed them. Next time I do a brake job I'll break it all down and paint 'em up right.

Changed the tranny and LSD fluid, installed the downpipe and everything else then fired her up. Drove it to about 20mph on the lift for a short period just to make sure everything was working smoothly. Car is so damn quiet I was about 20ft away from it in the shop and I could not tell it was on even with the timing being a little off. I hope the CPS O ring is where my oil is dribbling from I will test that theory when I change it on monday morning before driving the car home. Here is the only pic I took of it this morning while working on it.

Finally got her done, test drove her and what a big difference. Drives smooth, engages nicely, revs quicker and holds RPMs longer, no sounds at all, shifts like butter and finally got it timed right. Turned out it was able to get timed properly after they torqued the crank bolt to spec. I almost stalled the car twice driving it to work lol still need to get used to the quick engagement.

My 88 started knocking yesterday... Dammit. I'll let it go cheap if anyone wants it. 3 Supras is too many projects lol. PM an offer.

I used engine paint (satin black) and it turned out excellent. 3 years later, no wear or rust... (used engine paint because the sun tends to heat those babies up a bit.. and it was recommended)
