Hello guys.
I'm going auto and built Toyota tranny will cost me almost 4K$... may be a hair less. And no warrinties that it will hold.

So now I'm thinking of TH350, but the problem is that I know NOTHING about TH trannies (see my location ;-) We haven't too many american cars here.

Well, I got couple questions that should help me to make decision, would you mind answer them?
1) I know that few gyus sell adapter plates and so on. But is there anybody who sell complete install kit? I mean adapter plate, custom stall converter and driveshaft at leat.
2) Will basic (stock) TH350 work for my application (see below). I mean no upgrades, transbrakes etc... just bone stock TH350 with high stall (3500).
3) What else do I need to complete setup? Stock starter won't work, right? And I need something to shift gears... I've heard about some B&M shifter but idk what it's exactly and how does it work.
4) Price. Help me please to calculate approximate price for whole kit. I have some digit in my mind, but maybe I forgot something.
5) I know some guys are running here TH350s, but I don't remember their names. Couldn't you help me to contact them (or just chime in, if you have TH350 and reading this now).
6) disadvantages? TH350 hasn't locking TQ, so terrible gas mileage, right? And it's 3-speed also, so what will be my speed at 3500RPMs on highway (3.7 rear end)? What else?
7) Looking at ATI website, ebay etc. There are different TH350, right? (I mean front-pattern, reverse pattern etc). Is it important? And what do you recommend for my application?
8) Are TH350s really bulletproof?

thank you.

And now my setup and goals: 7M-GTE with PT67 and everything else to support it (fuel system, AEM, FFIM, exhaust... then forged internals, cams and water injection, but not this summer maybe). Weekend car for fun driving and some drag events. It means that my car should be still able to bring my arse everywhere anytime I want, but I'm not going to use it as DD. Weekends only and if I need to drive somewhere. Plus it should be able to show some modern cars like BMW's M-series what oldschool is at 1/4 mile :)

PS: I know there are better options, but I'm not ready to spend 10K on tranny setup.

Call me at 330-618-4844 and I can walk you through the set up. It would be much eaiser than trying to type out a book to answer all the questions on a th swap.

The front and reverse patterns are for manual shift valve bodies. The reverse shift valve body will go Park, reverse, neutral, first second third as opposed to park, reverse, neutral, third, second, first..................You'll have to change every gear with the manual shift valve body.

Thank you, Rich. But my spoken English is not so good =( And if I call you'd have to speak to me like an idiot. Actually, I _never_ have been speaking with american (shame on me). But if you speak Russian, I'll call you :sarcasm:

ok, I've got it. But no performance differences? Like loosing boost between shifts or so on?
And must I retard timing (to reduce TQ) while shifting (not to kill tranny)?

I've been told that the only way to kill the th350 is to run it withou sufficient transmission coolers, so I'm not worried about the shifting. I know it's going to shift harder than most tranny's since you're doing it manually and not letting it glide into gear like it would normally. They remove some of the (#%^$%$@) whatever they're called that makes it shift smoother. That probably doesn't make sense, but you'll learn to read between the lines and fill in the blanks when reading my posts...........:biglaugh:

Rich, I see some ATI parts to bolt TH to 7M on your website. I know you're very busy and so on, but couldn't you write just part-list with approx. prices to make TH350 work? I don't need every little thing like speedo adapter etc... I don't need step-by-step instruction either...
Actually for now there are two real questions:
1) What parts do I need to run car (start, drive, win =) and where to get them
2) How much is it

Thank you.

The TH350 is far from bullet proof in stock form. The good news is, the aftermarket is huge for these transmissions so they can be built up and hold some good power when treated right. I recommend going with Coan for the trans. ATI will sell you one that was about $1500 and wont break, but it was just the components needed to strengthen the trans. No aluminum drum, lightened sunshell, roller bearing package etc. The only other option above that was a competition trans designed for stock eliminator type racing and was fast, but extremely high maintenance and not a street trans. They had quite a few holes in their TH350 line up and they offered great resistance to ordering a custom unit that wasn't one of their off the shelf ones and this is coming from someone who worked with them closely and in person to develop their 5m/7m adapter kit. I ended up with a Coan in both my cars and haven't looked back since. Don't get me wrong, the ati kit and converter is an awesome setup, but their service isn't all that great and I think their TH350 lineup could use some work. The intermediate sprag is weak in the TH350, even fully built, so you have to be careful when doing a burnout and down shifting.

A 400 is def stronger but will break too if not treated right, and it's harder to turn/fit in the car. The built-up th350 is a fine choice as would be a 400, just don't expect to beat the holy living crap out of it on the street.

try calling anyhow. If it does not work out, we can e-mail each other. There is so much more to a th set up than just a parts list. So many tranny options, that you really need to speak to someone to let them get a feel for you goals or you will end up with a tranny set up you maynot be happy with,
