Hello guys.
I'm going auto and built Toyota tranny will cost me almost 4K$... may be a hair less. And no warrinties that it will hold.
So now I'm thinking of TH350, but the problem is that I know NOTHING about TH trannies (see my location ;-) We haven't too many american cars here.
Well, I got couple questions that should help me to make decision, would you mind answer them?
1) I know that few gyus sell adapter plates and so on. But is there anybody who sell complete install kit? I mean adapter plate, custom stall converter and driveshaft at leat.
2) Will basic (stock) TH350 work for my application (see below). I mean no upgrades, transbrakes etc... just bone stock TH350 with high stall (3500).
3) What else do I need to complete setup? Stock starter won't work, right? And I need something to shift gears... I've heard about some B&M shifter but idk what it's exactly and how does it work.
4) Price. Help me please to calculate approximate price for whole kit. I have some digit in my mind, but maybe I forgot something.
5) I know some guys are running here TH350s, but I don't remember their names. Couldn't you help me to contact them (or just chime in, if you have TH350 and reading this now).
6) disadvantages? TH350 hasn't locking TQ, so terrible gas mileage, right? And it's 3-speed also, so what will be my speed at 3500RPMs on highway (3.7 rear end)? What else?
7) Looking at ATI website, ebay etc. There are different TH350, right? (I mean front-pattern, reverse pattern etc). Is it important? And what do you recommend for my application?
8) Are TH350s really bulletproof?
thank you.
And now my setup and goals: 7M-GTE with PT67 and everything else to support it (fuel system, AEM, FFIM, exhaust... then forged internals, cams and water injection, but not this summer maybe). Weekend car for fun driving and some drag events. It means that my car should be still able to bring my arse everywhere anytime I want, but I'm not going to use it as DD. Weekends only and if I need to drive somewhere. Plus it should be able to show some modern cars like BMW's M-series what oldschool is at 1/4 mile
PS: I know there are better options, but I'm not ready to spend 10K on tranny setup.
