Power steering sux when not moving 1jz swapped

hey,

I am wondering why it is soo hard to turn my steering wheel when the car is not moving. I have to use both hands just to barely budge the wheels.

I have a 1991 supra with a 1j swap...i have never driven the car before the swap so i am not sure how hard the steering was before.

The progressive power steering is not wired up, but power steering IS hooked up and works great when i am moving over 5mph. I have driven other supras that have no power steering and their cars are alot easier to drive.

My question is, does anyone else experience this?? Is my steering rack messed up or my wheels too heavy?? I have no clue...

i'll put my money on that your power steering is not hooked up possibly. why isnt the pps wired up? might want to look into that. for now is there any noise coming from the pump? fluid level? wheels wont affect power steering at all

also check and make sure there is a cooler hooked up to the p/s system...

You need the PPS hooked up, or it will be hard to steer when you're not moving, and too easy at speed.

i was thinking its the PPS, i guess ill figure out how to wire it up.

Make sure the pressure and return lines are not mixed up on the rack. Don't forget to see if you installed a belt.

is it possible to mix them up? from what i remember there is a hose barb(like) fitting and a high pressure bolt in. for the 1jz there is only 1 belt for it :biglaugh: i hope he installed it!

the lines are correct...theres a belt too. I drove the car without p/s for a while, and after p/s i can only notice its easier after about 5mph.

Because its more expensive to replace and I dont feel that it does all that much really. I've had an 89 as well. The age of our cars + the likeliness of someone using the wrong fluid means that its also likely that the steering rack will need to be replaced.

PPS just assist a little bit in the steering...i should at least be able to steer one handed without PPS hooked up

uhm it has serp belt, car wont run without it.......

Might want to research just how PPS works then get back to us.......

we have another supra with no PPS hooked up, it works fine...come to the conclusion that i have a weak power steering pump
