For those who think Americans only race in a straight line:

The race is (12.42 miles) over 156 turns, climbing 1,439 meters (4,721 ft) from the start at Mile 7 on Pikes Peak Highway at 2,862 meters (9,390 ft) on grades averaging 7% over both gravel and paved sections.

It takes some seriously big balls of titanium to race that road, especially at the speeds they do it at. I'm not afraid to admit, that road scares the crap out of me and I would never race up that road. One split second mess up, brake too late, not turn sharp enough or fast enough, any small mess up, and you're going off a 1000 foot drop off straight down to your death.

He'd have just gone really fast for a 1/4 mile stopped rolled around the corner and nail it again if he wasn't born in New Zealand ;)

How about warming his tires? You know, the ones with the studs in them ? :)
