So in 2007 Tookwik introduced the IS300 setup and shook the world. As of today i have finished a setup that is true COP and its plug and play with no extra computers needed. It is a hair more complicated than the IS setup obviously but opens up the aftermarket with MSD and Accel coils being an option.
I used six coils from a 2003 Jaguar S-Type (Ford Taurus) DOHC v6
Ebay price 53.99 for a set of 6 shipped to my door
Set of coil connectors for the Ford 4.6 or 5.4 $37 shipped to my door
and i used a piece of 1" aluminum brace for the bracket.

So the second one will be made a little different than the first. (pictured)
One piece phenolic plate hand made to house all six coils.
The new coil will be the DG500 found on the ford escape and other v6 ford and mazda vehicles however the body is exactly the same as the mustang and f150 coil found in the 4.6 and 5.4.
I have found two options for this coil, the first is a stock coil rated at 45kv running $50 for a set of six, or a set of dragonfire coils running $180 for six. Here is the nice thing. I can get the same coil, dragonfire, in the angled plug for 100$ for six. And the coil will sit low enough that it will clear pipes and such. I am taking these into consideration when building the plate and harness to allow some diversity. Both these sets are rated around 50kv. Something to brood on.
The second unit should be finished by the end of this week (10-28-13) i am currently waiting for parts to come in. Pics will be posted upon completion.

The wiring harness like promised

Nathaninwa is currently fabricating the plate for this. If interested you may contact him to have one made.

Harness is $70 shipped anywhere in the states. You can contact me (morganson) for info on the harness.

Looks very good. Really cleans up engine.

Good looking bracket.

Great price for upgrade.

If The connectors came in black it would even be better.

Im sure i can get connectors in black. These were cheap and fast. Honestly the hardest part of this was figuring out the harness. The first one was a nightmare.

your doing this with the stock ecu and ignitor? how does it run? i thought about doing this myself but i was going to use the chrysler coils that seem popular on all the dsm cop setups. have you had any problems with spark blowout yet?

Runs fine on stock setup. Havent had any problem with blowout. Much snappier off idle. Nice thing about the ford coils is they put out almost twice most import coils. 40k or so. So even if you half the dwell time you are still golden. Plus the aftermarket coils almost double that and cut the dwell time giving this setup the ability to work on many levels. Im upgrading my injectors and uping the boost here shortly so i will keep posted if anything comes up. Dsm setup is supposed to work up to 15 psi so we will see.

I hate to be 'that' guy but what turbo are you running? Looks like a ct26 with a polished housing. My stock coils in good condition don't experience spark blowout at 18 PSI. How does this set compare to the spark output of say a 1zz COP setup?

Could we see spark output difference compared to now vs stock?

57 trim with ported exhaust manifold. 11PSI is the most i can do right now thats why im doing the 550s i am alrady running a maft. I dont have the capability to give you a print out of coil output. But last time i looked 1zz coils require an aftermarket ecu. This is plug and play. ;-)

The reason I tossed the 1zz COP setup in there is because most people who are worried about spark blowout are already planning on running a aftermarket EMS. I'm just looking for some numbers to weigh the benefits of changing to a COP setup that might be experiencing spark blowout at later stages.

Im sure the stock coils are fine. Neither me or tookwik developed this because of a deficency in the stock ignition. I cant speak for tookwik but i put this together because i havent seen another like it, because stock coils on top of being expensive are getting harder to find. But most of all because i wanted to. I will look for some numbers on dwell timing and peak output of the coils. But to compare these coils to 1zz "smart" coils is like comparing a grapefruit to a cucumber. Different systems. I shared this beause i was hoping to grow the community. I hope this proves to be an asset to all 7ms.
*sorry premature posting
To address your concern, this setup is only a month old and i dont have another car i can test on making big boost. Currently im not having any issue with it and will be updating when i get my last injector. What i want to do is try to give a budget option to standalone. Because i dont know about you, but i dont have a grand sitting around to play with. When i get the harness posted up build one and tell everyone what you think. (goes out to everyone) This is still in development, but it works. I just need more cars to find out the limits.

Oh, believe me, I thank you for all the work put into this. Including all the R&D done for making sure everything works like it should. I'm not trying to bash your work in any way shape or form, merely trying to get some numbers to see how this setup would do compared to the IS300/1zz COP setups because like you said, switching to the other setups can't cheap in any way.

If this could support 600 BHP then that could be money spent elsewhere instead of upgrading the stock ignition system.

Are you going to post the write up on this thread or start a new one? I'm gonna subscribe to this thread either way. Can you post the link here if you start a new write up thread. I'm very interested due to starting my build over and hating the coil pack setup on my 7MGTE.

I love this setup. Looks even more slick than the IS300 coils. Get the wiring harness, coils, and bracket together and sell them together as one complete set. I'm sure people would buy them!
