Fail town
i am interested in a swap for my mkiii 5 speed 7mge and i want more torque for the supra.

i have searched alot through sm and found rather simple layout, saying that the 7mgte has more torque then a twin turbo 1jz and i wonder, how is that possible?

i do not know much about engines when it comes to upgrades but im relatively knowledge in stock work.

question:
what is a recommended engine to swap into a supra with quiet a bit or torque that IS turbo.

pshhhhhhhhh!

thank you.

I think what he means by torque is low rpm torque, not peak torque. The 7M is probably the best stock turbo engine when it comes to low-end torque. Of course there are many other good engines you could experiment with by adding a turbo to. My suggestion would obviously be an aluminum LSX.

When I comes to engine swaps, You're only limited by your imagination and depth of your pockets ;).

You might also want to look into turboing the 7MGE that's already in your car if it's running fine. Given the higher compression ratio, NA/T setups tend to produce a little more torque than GTE Motors pound for pound.

Little BB turbo with a tight AR and settle for 5500 redline but V8 torque off idle ;) (my first build was done this way)

Sounds like a diesel, instant spool and torque but no top end.

When he shows you his talil lights, so what. :nono: You have to go through 3000 RPM before you get to 7000 RPM.

I dunno what you have been reading but TQ is not based on the engine itself. But the overall set up.

It most certainly is based on the engine itself, and how large it is. The overall setup will affect how it will run. For example, a manifold with a large plenum and short runners will shift the torque curve higher in the rev range than one with longer runners.

I wasn't slagging off the setup, just saying it sounds like it would drive like a diesel. I for one like low down punch, I hate having to wait for power.

I guess what engine you want to go with would depend on your budget... how much do you want to spend? N/A-T 7M-GE and 7M-GTE swaps would be cheap(ish), then likely a 1JZ-GTE swap being more expensive, then probably a 2JZ-GTE being more expensive than that... then the less commonly done swaps being more expensive and skill dependant after that.

I've figured my 2JZ swap to cost somewhere around $5000: buying the motor, doing a OEM rebuild, and getting it into the car and running on stock twins.

How much you want to spend is probably the place to start ;)

I regularly see people talk about 1UZ swaps, but very, very few ever do them...

lol, that's the first thing that came to my mind too.

but really, 7M > 1JZ for TQ due to displacement

A great place to start looking is http://www.uzswap.com/forum/

I did some research into it, but scrapped the idea due to all the custom fab work involved. Things I know are that the 1UZ only ever came from the factory bolted to auto transmissions, so manual swaps involve some fun wiring exercises. Buying the engine won't break your piggy bank, at around 1500 bucks. You can buy a bellhousing conversion plate for most any toyota transmissions like the R154 and some GM transmissions (I think it's an outfit in austrailia?).

Hope that helps a bit

How many Diesel's out of the factory run 5500 RPM?
