Hello all,

Started my conversion awhile ago but ran into an issue of not being able to remove the pan for my oil drain. Decided to pull the whole motor and im glad i did. its going to be a stock rebuild with stock GE compression of about 9.0-9.1 to one. shooting for 350-400 ponies and a some extra torque on top of that.

Pulled the valve covers off and the cams look beautiful! Then when i removed the head i noticed my HG was just beginning deformation that would have eventually lead to a BHG. Cylinder walls seems slightly scuffed and the bearing are toast, crank looks ok though. Exhaust cam was advanced a tooth, drove fine though. Cylinder #2 had a chunk missing from the piston that got hammered around for a bit leaving some nasty nicks in the piston and head:aigo:.Dont know what to do about that yet.

Oh and your gonna love this my banjo bolt on the oil pump cross over pipe thing was on there about ONE AND A HALF THREADS!:yikes: No tools where required to loosen that guy at all! I have to find the magnetic base for my dads dial indicator so i can remove the crank.

Nice, I am in the process of the same thing, Do you need a head? I have two spare if you need one shoot me a PM.. Keep me updated, I should have mine done in about two weeks.. All I need to order is the HKS Metal Head gasket and Oil line kit.. Then Pull the motor and have my brother weld in the bung for the oil drain..

I have a MHG you could have if you have a head in good condition.

I think i have a late block and 7M crank and i had a pre 89 ecu. I definitely need new pistons. I hot tanked the block then cleaned it out with soap and water. I also chipped away at any loose casting.

Did a quick measurement of bores. Taper and out of round 13 thou in some places. Block needs resurface also. Called all the machine shops in my area. All claim there machines are all less than a year old and can get a mirror surface, but dont have equipment to test Ra. Stopped by one and finish is nice and say mhg is no problem. Dont know what to do..

My crank has some very fine lines that can not be felt at all, but one of the journals had little piece kinda welding in there. Would having it sent off to be polished correct this and not change my clearances?

I know toyota uses select fit bearings but the price quotes i got were crazy. If i were to buy some standard bearings such as NDC or Federal Mougals will i be fine? I plastigauged my main bearings and got the following. All the bearings are in the same shape.

1-.002 , 2-.0015 , 3-.0015 , 4-.002 , 5-.0015 , 6-.002 , 7-.002

Numbers on my block read
112-2222
222.222
and the crank
111.112
22-11112

Looking good man in a few days I am going to take my GTE motor that I got off a friend apart and see what I need to replace and then take out me GE and slap the GTE in. Let me know if you still have the MHG I need one and some arp head bolts.

Drove to every machine shop near by and choose one with the best surface finish, attitude and equipment. Block is getting bore/hone and head is getting decked. Im also going to have them polish my crank. I even gave the guy a copy of the tsrm just in case lol.

Im really interested in the diy techline coatings. I was thinking of ceramic coating the head and piston tops and dry filming skirts and bearings. I have an electric oven dedicated for paint and powder baking. Anyone have expirence with it?

One that bothers me is my cams. I have 2 sets in the same scoured condition. Is this normaly from lack of oil or warpage? I was thinkimg of drilling the tiny oil feed in the cam bigger and dry filming the journals. ideas?

Slap the turbo stuff on the ge and drive it till it blows. In the mean time you can build up the other motor. Thats what i was going to do but my dads putting my spare motor into his z.O

I wouldn't touch the cams.. The scoring is normal and almost every 7M I have worked on (quite a few) had it.. Just throw the motor back together the way it was.. Get it on the road! You will be amazed at the difference! I about shit myself the first time I got on full boost in 1st gear :D I had a smile from ear to ear and you will too :D

Update!

Got my engine back from the machine shop and i am more than satisfied with the work. I still need to mic out the journals so i can buy some select fit bearings from toyota $$$$ . I'm going to match the hole for the water pump outlet on the block . there is quite a bit of material to remove. The NPR's have some pretty sharp edges that i have been sanding down.
