i think you may have give it to much credit. thats 1/2 an NA motor and a NA it take 48 hours to get to 100. so 2X48= TO DAMN LONG. put it in a Rolla.

They had an F head for that block? Or is it 1G-GE (since they had the 1G-GTE)

F heads = DOHC low-end grunt (passenger cars/trucks)

G heads = DOHC mid-high end power (performance cars)

The MK3 had the 1G-E, 1G-FE, 1G-GE, and 1G-GTE, as well as the 7M-GE, 7M-GTE, and the 1JZ-GTE.

I don't understand what Toyota was trying to accomplish with having a variety of weaksauce engines to propel a car this heavy..
Maybe Toyota Japan knew that some people didn't care about the performance and just wanted a nice looking car?

Most likely, especially with taxes based on engine size, etc in Japan. A note: the 7M-GE wasn't sold in the Supra in Japan, only outside of Japan, people in Japan would rather have a 2.0L Turbo engine with the same power than a 3.0L N/A engine... costs them less. Same thing wouldn't have worked at all in North America.
