I have a few points.

One: We need to come together - not be split apart. Do not put up another damn forum/mailinglist/etc. We already have too many of these. Information may get posted over on TrollForums that never makes it over here. Then later someone has to come on here and ask the same question that has already been answered.

Two: We are doing ourselves a disservice by relying entirely on a forum. Let's say we have a thread on wheel sizing (example). A lot of great information gets posted but is sprinkled in between a bunch of "Me Too" posts and some inside jokes. If someone reads the entire thread they will get the answers to their questions and not need to ask again. Why don't they? Most people don't want to read through 6+ pages to get to the information. We need a comittee to take important topics like these and boil them down to the facts and make another page just for that - and before anyone jumps on me here let me say that THAT PAGE SHOULD NOT BE IN THE FORUM! It should be a static page outside of the forum software - linked to from a FAQ or Tech Tips sticky or something. If in the future new information comes up that should go into that page then we discus it in the forum and then boil it down to the correct information and update the static page.

Three: This whole nonsense about "You must have XXX horsepower or we won't let you in..." crap is just BS! Build the damn site so people can enter stats and they can be searchable. Imagine visiting a site where you can enter certain criteria and find those Supras that you want. Say Timmy visits and he wants to see all Supras running an upgraded turbo and nitrous. Click, click, and click and up comes a list tailored to Timmy's wishes. Say Jimmy comes in and wants to see all those Supras with drag times faster than 14.5seconds. Click, click and WHAM! If Duane wants to filter the Supras by all those with over 500whp he can do that. Now say I want to go in and see all bone stock Supras - I can do that too. Much like searching for someone on MySpace you should have a lot of options available for your search. What you end up with is a place for EVERY MkIII owner and not just some elitist - you must think the same way I think - site. Rating of the cars at that point is fine and all but it would just be a popularity contest - and rather pointless in my mind.

If we build this properly we can provide a real service to the community and who knows... we may even find fewer people asking "What is the birdcage light on my dash?"

I know it looks like a massive task but we have a lot of really talented people here. If we could all come together instead of just running off and doing our own thing we could make something really GREAT!

thanks for the input keith...

on your first point i agree on having all sorts of forums everywhere that is why i wasnt planning on adding one to my site...

2. i also agree and was going to get ready to pm the admins on this forum to ask if i can pull any info off here espically in the tech section and make acutal content pages and host them on my site... btw im willing to host any content that is related to the mk3supra if you have any

3.At the moment i wasnt planning on having it like cardomain or anything like that where people put in the "hp" or drag times at the moment it is a way for people to have blogs, rate other cars, send messages, and kinda connect everyone.....

Thanks for the input keith keep it all coming...

Anyone have any content that they wish to add please let me know.

Keith,
supra-tsrm was basically exactly what you were describing. It was a place for people to submit tech tips and information about issues/repairs with the mk3 supra.

All tech tips were moderated and approved. However it really hasnt been successful because supra owners dont take the time to join there and submit the tech tips.

Enough thread jacking. What Bigal is offering is pretty cool, keep up the good work man.

I think Keith is right about splitting the community, and when I started reading this thread I was gonna say it until I read he already had.

Now I havent been around the forum for very long. In fact this is the first automotive forum Ive ever belonged to that I posted more than 10 posts. There are 3 things that I like about supramania.com
1) that is has a wonderful sense of community and family with a wide range of experience levels.
2) it is full of good, relevant information that is helpful in solving my issues.
3) because of the first and second reason it is also a great marketplace alternative to ebay where I can buy and sell parts from trusted individuals instead of complete unknowns.

What Supramania.com lacks is organization and authentication of that information. It needes to be presented in such a way that it is useful to both the expereinced and the inexperienced. Help information needs to be "tiered" so that a complete noob can get the basics answered, but a real pro can also find answers to more difficult and elusive information.

What Im suggesting is in addition to supramania.com we need a complete FAQ organized by catagory and difficulty. Put simply, what I think we need is a searchable database that is a supplimental to the TSRM that follows the TSRM chapter headings. Your site could be that site. It would require alot of work but I think you could count on SM and its members to help you gather. write, and present this information.

Alright for those that have registered there is a new chat section under the main menu. Just use your login name and password and it should work.

In order to use the chat you must have flash installed and notcied that you have to click on the "white space" in order for the active x crap to start....

Alright what do you(SM community) want next?

I think a Mod list with price you paid, along with HP's, 1/4 times, dyno #'s would be cool. Then newbs looking to upgrade for the first time can see which mods he can do to get certain HP, and what it will cost him to do that. Maybe even a source column could let him know where to get it too. I'm not talking about..productX costs X amount, and it gives XHP, but rather ...This car has X,X and X, and his car has XHP for X$

Confused?

Confused?

Price paid is going to be all over the place - and out of date. For example: I got my illumina 2s at $95/corner but that was WAY Back in 1997/8.

As for the fields to search against try to make the options into dropdown menus. If there is one thing I have learned from doing the DB for Vegas it is that people will make $#!T up. I may enter "Tokico Illumina II TEMS Compatible Shocks" and timmy may enter simply "Illumina II". How valuable is that data if James wants to list all cars running those shocks?

Break the car down into major areas: Body, Suspension, Engine, Interior, ICE, etc. Then take each of those areas and think of everything in that area that someone may want to search on.

Example:
Interior:
Seats - Original Leather/Original Cloth/Upgraded Leather/Upgraded Cloth
Gauge Faces - Stock/aftermarket
Other Gauges - yes/no

Think about this if you were searching for your ultimate date:
Blonde
Blue Eyes that twinkle as if by magic
5'11" - with legs all the way up to here
36C/26/34
Smile that will light up the room
Great sense of humor - not afraid of stupid humor once in a while
Likes Indian Food
Non-Smoker
Social Drinker
Enjoys Battlestar Galactica
Plays Pool
Computer Literate

You get my point. The more diverse your search criteria is, the easier it will be for people to find just what they are looking for. The easier it is for people to find what they are looking for, the more people will use it. The more people use it, the better it will get.

I work as a Software QA Engineer. One of the biggest things that bites companies in the @$$ is the lack of well defined requirements. If you run off and work on some half-baked idea you will wind up with a half-baked mess. If you put a good team together and you spend some quality time defining the requirements you will wind up with a GREAT product.

A personal example: I had a Program Manager say I did a great job and that she would get me anything I needed (lack of requirements #1) so I said I needed a Porsche. Eventually - after poking a lot of fun saying "Where's My Porsche?" - I came in to the office and found a Porsche sitting in my chair (lack of requirements #2). This Porsche was much smaller than I was hoping for - and I wanted a Turbo - but I didn't make that clear up front (requirements).

A work example: I worked for a company doing QA. A requirement came down from the customer "We want a blue dot." So 10 different engineers went 10 different directions and made 10 different dots. They came back together, selected the best one (based on their own set of personal requirements) and sent it on to the customer. The response was that the blue dot was good but they were hoping for a different shade of blue. So 10 different engineers ran 10 different directions and made 10 different colored dots. They again came back together, selected the best one (again based on their own set of personal requirements) and sent it on to the customer. This went on for some time before the customer was finally happy.

During our assessment of what happened I was asked how come QA(testing) did not catch the problems. I presented my test cases:

June 1 Blue Dot - Pass
June 2 Different colored Blue Dot - Pass
June 3 Move Blue Dot to the Left - Pass
June 4 Move Blue Dot to bottom half of the Page - Pass
June 5 Move Blue Dot to another page (not page 1) - Pass

The names have been changed to protect the innocent but the overall story is right on.
